I was wondering today, who was the FIRST person to trial the 3L into his SVT and started this craze? Im sure you old timers may recall but its somthing Ive been wondering about. Was there ever a thread regarding the whole deal?

I think worldtour mentioned something about DavidZ. If he wasnt the first, he was at least the first to take hybrids to a high N/A level!

Ray McNary reported that his "deep throat" contact with Ford revealed that Ford tried it before anyone else did.

The turning point was when the bell housing pattern for the 3.0 became the same as our engine with the 99 model. And then the real turning point was with the 01 3.0 getting the water pump in the same place as ours.

I also remember Ford doing a 3.0 Cougar with a blower with insane acceleration as reported in one of the enthusiast magazines.

All of the factory tinkering was before it caught on.

I also remember that Buckshot claimed to be the first blown 3.0 CSVT. Blown had double meaning.

That was SCC. It was the Paxton charged Cougar. The one that was at Spring Zing. Fastest 3rd gear 50-70 pull recorded I believe.

i remember reading about that, iirc he couldn't get traction until 3rd gear and it went up on the way to the dyno for a tune i believe ...

I also recall following Airknights build up in his college apartment living room ...

Brad Noon was one of the first 3L's. IIRC DavidZ might have been the first on CEG to do the swap. I was the first blown 3L in more ways than one. The first engine blew up on the dyno since the guys running the dyno had no clue what they were looking at and what needed tuning. I've since been through 2 other engines and am now working on the 4th iteration being built for my car.

Its funny the way boards change over time and people. DavidZ was the first on here to do the 3.0L swap, and now with the turn over people have no clue. I believe Brad Noon was right behind David, but I believe David has/had the most 'unique' 3.0L

high compression, it was a hybrid i believe. Adjustable cam gears, alot of time and thought went into the motor. Along with alot of attentiont to little details

The fact that DavidZ did all of that, at the time he did it, is what is cool to me! Hell, right now the custom cams would be an eye-opener for CEG if someone installed them. This was what, 5+ years ago? Definitely an innovator for the swap, and something us old schoolers looked up to with our own swaps.

Not just custom cams, but adjustable ones!

I know of a CEG'er tha has some custom cut cams.... he just needs to get off his lazy ass and find some money ;p

i dont think i was the 1st 3L atx.....maybe the 2nd but i believe i pushed the atx the farthest, and then went on to do a mtx swap.

i havent been around much, as ive been working my @ss off and will be opening my own garage very shortly here. If it wasnt for my contour i wouldnt be where i am now
