I know this has been done on NECO and I plan on attempting to make it work. I have a UIM that has been gasket matched to the LIM and gasket matched to a 3L/SVT tb. I also have a spare 3L tb. I don't know if anyone on here has done this or not. I've been doing most of my research for this on NECO because I didn't find much here other than 'it doesn't work'.

Anyone have any advice that has tried it or done it?

I know the IAC port has to be blocked off and im thinking the other little port needs to be blocked off as well. I'm starting with that and going from there...

I have a spare 2.5 TB that I will take the TPS off of and use that on the 3L tb because the 3L tb has to be flipped upside down to work on our cars. It does look like the ATX linkage except flipped 180 degrees...

If all goes well I will do a how to... :D

Alright, started blocking off the IAC port today. Its gonna take a couple tries to get it right and then some sanding to smooth things out. But, so far so good. Gonna pick up the TB gasket either monday or tuesday too...

Then hopefully do some test fitting either wednesday or friday... :D

Um, how will you get your car to idle properly if you don't use the IAC??
What is that other little port you want to block?? Got any pictures of what you're doin'?

It'll still use the IAC, on the 3L duratecs, the IAC is routed through the TB, iinstead of a tube coming from the intake tubing to the upper intake. You have to block off the port on the throttle body. I guess you don't really need to, but that's just an air pocket thats gonna hurt performance, and if you're going this far, might as well complete the job... :D

I'll get a couple pics up of the TB tomorrow, JB weld is setting up as we speak! But, here are a couple teaser pics of the UIM i'm working on...

Semi-polished, still has a long way to go, or it gets painted gunmetal with a nice coat or 2 of clear...

As promised, here are some pics...

I had a thought tonight that im not sure if it would work or not, but you may be able to grab the throttle body cable bracket off the taurus and both the cruise control and throttle cables and just use those... I'm not sure if it would work or not but its potentially worth a shot...

There's a comparison to the 2.5 TB... Notice the different linkage mounts...

Here's the back, you can see the back part of the port blocked off... This is the IAC port that gets blocked off when using the 3L tb on a 2.5 UIM...

Just put the last batch of JB weld on the IAC port inside to smooth out the transition. Just gotta dremel it down flush and then polish the inside and sand the lip down where the tb gets smaller then this one's ready to go!

Doesn't seem to be too much interest in this... Either that or everyone is waiting to see the results and how I make out with the swap...

I'm hoping the later... Could potentially be a cheaper alternative to an SVT TB... But, I got the 3L tb for $10 out of a junkyard and have enough 2.5 TB's to swap the TPS off of that its really dirt cheap... I've got probably 3 spare complete 2.5 ATX TB's laying around... I really need to clean house...

I would like to see the results for this. Thats just the regular 2.5 uim polished right?

Yep... Polished up top and a little gasket matching on the primary and secondary ports, you can see where the tracings are for the gaskets and how much material needs to be removed. I've been cutting away at it with the dremel and it seems to be working well. If you use a little water and spray it where you're cutting it helps keep the dremel cutting bits in tact. Otherwise it eats through them fairly quickly. After the dremeling I plan on hand wetsanding the ports to finish smoothing them out... :D

But, I also may be picking up an SVT soon. Don't worry though i'll still test fitment and driveability with the 3L tb before I sell that stuff. If I get the SVT, most of my non-svt performance parts are going to be up for sale, along with some stuff i've got in the garage...

Well, damn good for you! You're venturing into seldom seen territory & doing a nice job of it. I can't see the pix at work, but your write-up sounds like you're doing a thorough job.

Keep at it, man!

A friend of mine is using a 3.0 tb like that one on his 2.5 Cougar. He has a max-extruded 2.5 upper, and is running a 2.5 cable from an ATX-equipped car.

You don't actually even need to fill the IAC hole; it dead-ends into the TB gasket, so there are no leaks.

Besides the IAC hole, the 3.0 is exactly the same as the SVT tb.
