220 amp alternator. has anyone tried??

Hey man anyone with over 40,000 feedback at ONE HUNDRED percent.

I'd buy from them!!

I might actually buy that even.

That alt will require a minimum of 1/0 awg wire.
Which CAN be expensive.
From the alt to the battery positive it is only 7ish feet.
But you will have to have an identical guage for your battery negative.

From the battery negative it goes under the battery tray to the block and another 2strands go to the fender under the fuse/relay box.

Check this one out.

Take the total Amp rating of your alternator and multiply it by .4.
the answer will be the amps on reserve for your electronic accessories: stereo, cb, inverter, etc. . .

Keep in mind that was originally equipped with a 125 or 130A so 220 is a huge jump.

you must plan on running something big!

Good luck.

wire isnt a problem

i will change per first quality wires, much much better than the original car ones

will this alternator work in my mk2 mondeo V6?? the contour/cougar/mondeo appear be the same one, but i dont know exactly

I remember Way2tuf had problems trying to run a high amp alternator...I think it ended up causing his battery to explode and the acid did damage to his engine bay...

I don't see why it wouldn't fit. As far as I know the layout of the accessories on the block are the same: a/c compressor, alternator, p/s/ pump, blah blah

also a good high quality dry cell battery might not be a bad idea at all either.

so the hi amp alternator might damage my battery ? i use a 75 amp battery, and when i install the alternator i'll change the wires. even doing these modifications i'll have problems??

75 amp battery? your terminology seems to be mixed up.

1. Get a GOOD/STRONG battery.
2. Upgrade your wiring to 1/0awg minimum.
3. Put in your new 220A alternator.
4. Carry a cool, chrome fire extinguisher.

you should be fine.

I can't stress how important good, solid connections are for + AND - terminals!!!!

Do not use a 220 amp alternator. You wiring system is not setup for it and all you will do is damage everything in it's path.

My motor home only has a 200 amp alternator and it has 5 batteries.

i've seen a 160 amp alternator. i'm very interested to try this one (isnt so strong like the 220)

i dont know about the contours V6, but all mondeos mk2 V6 that i know have problems with lights flashing!

what does the lights flash?? the alternator? wires?

i had a 220 amp alternator in my old svt it had a crazy sound system ran 0 guage wire to the battery "optima yellowtop" from the 220 amp alternator never had a single isssue just constant power slight engine power loss under load when the subs were hitting!!! but not when the subs were not on.
