2 problems ticking noise , hose below cyclinder 6 is cracked

Hey everyone, I have a 98 SE V6 duratec, 188500 km
as per above, i noticed lately that there is a ticking noise coming from the right side of the engine, it gets louder when accelerating, but only after it's been running for a few minutes, also i noticed today that the rubber hose going into the block below cyl 6 from the air intake is cracked i patched it up with electrical tape, but i want to know if the part that's cracked is replaceable or do i have to replace the whole length of hose? also there was alot of soot built up on the inside of the hood and on the metal piece above the rad, i imagine this isn't normal? I cleaned off alot of it but it was real dirty. Tony helped with my shift issues, so i figured i'd come here first.
 
Ticking could be a lot of things... if its coming from the driver side of the motor it could be a failing water pump, however, it also could be failed rod bearings, probably would be a good idea to post a video/audio clip of the noise its making.

Any rubber hose can be replaced with a generic spare gotten from Autozone or any major parts provider.
 
do you mean the right side of the engine as in passenger side, or the right side of the engine as you are facing the engine meaning the drivers side?

Just curious...when's the last time you changed the oil and how much did you put in it? Did you change the filter? Could be the cause of the tick...

it was changed along with the filter about a month ago, was done by can tire, I haven't checked the dipstick since, but didn't notice any leaks, just alot of soot in the compartment, like i mentioned before, but I had a miss in cyl 5, we drove about 300 km but it was 6 am and miles from no where. and all the plugs were changed. the 3 front wires were changed also. just need to get to the back 3. this is my first tour, but it's had several owners, 11 records on carfax, but i'm not sure what they are. we had a unlimited 1 month trial but that expired a few months ago. it was definitely abused, but I'm trying to treat her nice. just hoping she's not going to die on me.
 
sounds like you have a bad idler or tensioner on your accessory drive system, pretty quick fix, and the car sounds like its idling goofy, which also makes it sound like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Does your car throw a check engine light?

Thats what I thought when I asked him if he actually meant the passenger side. Cause that sounded exactly like an idler, I know everyone was thinking he meant drivers side earlier, so I didnt want to say anything and sound stupid lmao.

I haven't had any CEL's since the wires were changed, just rough shifting, lower gears seem to have a lurch, then when climbing a hill at highway speed, say 110 km/h it revs up to 3000 almost instantly. when i start er up, she revs to 1500 then drops to 750 and doesn't drop or climb.

well it's not ticking any more, I changed the plug wires on cyl 1-3, i double checked to make sure i didn't cross the wires. and i stopped somewhere for gas, soon as i got going again, o/d light came on, and really got rough driving forward after about 20 min or so, but i asked at a service station if they could read the tranny code, instead he said to drive with o/d off and it made a real improvement, but at the last little bit the cel came on. didn't flash just stays on. Oh i wish i knew someone with a code reader. I don't feel like taking it to the dealership to pay $65 dollars for a $20 part, eg TSS, but i want to make sure.

in case you didnt fix the ticking noise yet, a while back my car was making a ticking noise that i couldnt find at all, and realized it was a loose spark plug, which seemed odd. IF it is that, replace the plug cause mine blew out on the highway after a while.

Update

took her to ford today and they found that the plug wire in cyl 3 popped off and the VSS was throwing a code, so i'm going to have it replaced. but i looked today and one of my pulleys, the one near the bottom on the passenger side was wobbling to the left and right, any idea how to fix this?
