i have my engine almost all together but i ran into a problem with the pass. top motor mount. ive searched and found that for a taurus swap you need a 01+ cougar mount. but mine is a sable block so should i get a sable mount or the cougar mount. i dont know if they are the same bolt pattern.

Yeah dude, just grind a little bit at a time until it fits. That's what I did. Also, after you're done grinding, spray it with a couple of coats of fancy paint so it doesn't rust and looks cool.

see when i was putting the motor together the holes didnt even line up though.... its a 2000 sable block and i have svt mounts.

The sable block means absolutely nothing. I've never seen any of the duratec 2.5 or 3L blocks that didn't have the holes in between the heads for the mounts. The only difference I've ever noted is that some of the old mounts had larger bolts in them so the block had to match that as well. You should be able to just reuse your 2.5 mounts (SVT is the same as all the rest).

If the holes don't line up as you say, please take a picture and send it our way so we can see what you're talking about.

Thanks,
Rick

Todd,

You're wrong and right at the same time. The newer engines do have smaller holes, however many of the 2.5 mounts also had the smaller holes. I've actually only ever had one of the mounts that had the large holes and that was on a 98 2.5 motor. I'm pretty sure his 2000 motor will have the smaller holes and if he does happen to have an older contour that has the bigger holes, he will need a new mount and bolts.

Yeah, I found out the hard way that I needed a different mount. :(

It held me back another week from completing my swap while the dealer ordered it. Then the idiots ordered 4 of the same bolts instead of 2 short, 2 long. That was another week wait.....

well ill try to gring it down but when i put the heads on i swear it didnt match up at all. buckshot its a 98 svt so what you said might work for me, but i wont be able to see until tonight.

No. The bolts are different diameters along with the fact that the locating dowels on the mounts are sized along with the bolts. While it would be possible to stick a newer mount on the older block, the bolts will be too small to fit the holes in the block.

My guess is that you have an old style mount with the larger holes and therefore it would not sit down on the block. You'll need the newer style mount. Before you go to the trouble of grinding everything down, do a quick test and see if the bolts from your mount fit in the holes of the block. If they don't fit, order a new mount and 4 new bolts.

will a 01 escape mount be the same or will i need to remove the one from my old motor?

If you bought an Escape block, use the mount that is all ready on the block. The only difference is the 4 bolts on the top of the mount are bolts on the Escape and studs on the contour. You'll need a reverse torx socket to pull the studs out of your old mount to put them into the Escape mount.

Have fun pulling the head off the old motor to the mount off. I'd just get the cougar and 4 bolts, grind and be done.

Alright I have a question, I've ordered my cougar mount for the 3L but I have the heads ready to go on the engine right now. Can the mount be put on with the heads in place or do I have to do it without the heads on?

Yes I believe that is the beauty of the cougar mount. It allows you to grind alot less than the stock mounts and will fit in without removing the heads (which many who are doing straight swaps will not want to do)

But I may be wrong
