Yup and damn does my elbow hurt. Who knew that the glass doesn't break that easy?

So, what's the story? Why would I break into my own car when I have 3 sets of keys? In the words of the helpful snowplow driver, "Well, you have to do what you have to do."

All this comes after wanting to get some decent night shots of the SVT in her first snow ever at Beautiful downtown Annapolis, MD. I got out to take some pics and go to get back in and it didn't work. After 1.5 hours of standing in the 20 degree weather, snow and sleet, vainly using a coathanger from some nice students from the nearby college, getting accused by one angry driver of being drunk and telling me I'd be arrested if the cops came, I get into the car.

But how do I eventually get in the car? No, not by the elbow as I was hoping. That would've been easy, sorta.

A snowplow eventually comes by. I explain my situation and ask for a hammer. He offers his handheld radio, saying that he's used it as a sledge before. That doesn't work so he gets the skid from the plow. It's a big hunk of rounded steel with a nice little handle and with a quick whack the window breaks and 30 seconds later I'm in the warmth of the car again and on my way home.

So why didn't the coathanger work? Well, when my car was broken into a few months ago, I never put the door panel back on and the switches are just hanging.

man that sucks....what about using the hanger on the passanger side door? The panel was still on there right? Perhaps you could have hit the unlock button from that side?

it wasn't stiff enough to press down the driver's side buttons so I didn't think it would work on the others either. I thought about it but it just didn't possible.

Besides, the drivers door was still partially opened at the time.

I'd rather have called a wrecker. They can get it in about 1 minute. BTW don't ask. Cost ya $50 but if you have roadside it's free.

I found it easier to take out the license plate light with a screw driver, put the hanger in from there and reach for the glow in the dark saftey handle in the trunk. Took all of 10 minutes...

except that contours do not have the glow in the dark safety handle in the trunk ...

Atleast it was only the window. Did you have tint on it? I'm willing to guess no since it looks like it shattered pretty good.

nope, it was tinted. And the first time it was broke was the same way. Glass all over the place but the majoity was still held by the tint.
When I had to replace it from the break-in, I was fortunate enough to find a glass that was already tinted the same and had already been removed for me. That was awesome.

Here is the only decent pic I found. I've seen this svt before but never here. It's usually on the other side of town, always parked in the same spot, wheels always turned the same way. Heck, I thought it never moved until I saw it parked downtown a few nights ago.
