My fuel pump went out and I needed a tow. It was one of those tow trucks which cradles the front wheels to tow your car.

Anyway, ever since being towed, my steering creaks and groans whenever I turn the wheel. You can sort of feel it in the steering wheel too.

What should I be looking for?

I would listen closely to the power steering pump and around the strut towers while someone turns the wheel with the car both running and not running.

did you listen to the power steering pump? can you make a video to more accurately depict the noise? Is it more of a groan or an actual creaking noise like wood floor boards in an old house?

check your sway bar end links. mine car was doing this too. it got so bad I actually stopped driving til I figured out what was wrong. They are cheap but the top bolt is hard to get too.

I can only hear it when I turn the wheel when the car is stopped. When the car's in motion, you don't really hear it because the road noise masks it. Is that how your's was?

It does sound like it's coming from both shock towers.

dont know how I missed this, creaking steering coming from the strut towers generally refers to the strut bearings, I have this same issue right now, I reused my strut bearings because monroe shipped me the wrong mount bearings and it makes a creaking noise when I steer the car at a stop, is it bad? Not really a serious issue, just annoying. However you should replace your strut mounts and bearings, and if your suspension is original, probably should look into some new struts too.

I was thinking the same thing. Struts were replaced afew years ago, but strut bearings are original.

It's actually not bad, but I'm pretty anal about stuff like that.

Wonder why towing it would do that?

Depends on how it was towed, it might have already been there before hand but you didn't notice it till after having the car towed and looking for any damage, they probably needed to be replaced before hand.
