i found a "high output cougar S" engine plaque at a swap meet earlier today. i thought it looked different, but wasnt sure if it was a mass produced plaque or if i would be wasting money buying it (probably somewhere between $10-$20). did i make a mistake to not get it?

cougar S was a concept vehicle. There are pictures around here of it....i have a road and tack article of it with the car on the front cover. :)

So it might be a duplicated engine plaque. If it is from one of the original...then you got a great deal:cool:

i doubt it was a replica part. the vendor selling them had all genuine ford parts in all ford packaging. im thinking i should have picked it up anyways

From what I recall, the Cougar S was nothing more than the Cougar with an SVT engine.

nope, AWD 3.0L

"Matching the concept's increased horsepower and improved AWD handling characteristics required meticulous attention to detail from Ford's aerodynamicists. The Cougar S concept has two spoilers, one on the conventional decklid location and another that is integrated with the rear window header . At the rear a new fascia with integrated exhaust pipes flanked by rectangular air vents continues the front air dam's theme. A very Euro-style radio antenna on the windshield header gives a cosmopolitan touch that well suits the image of the Cougar S concept.

Had the Cougar S been put into production, it would have been a dream come true for "tuners and tweakers." The Cougar S is powered by a modified modular 24 valve V-6 Duratec prototype engine. This strong breathing engine at 3.0 liters is a half liter larger than the production counterpart. It is fed by a modified intake system that feeds cold air through a functional scoop at the base of the wind screen. With available SVT modifications, the motor is capable of over 400 horsepower. Mounted to the modular Duratec powerplant is a drive line taken from the all wheel drive Mondo prototype - A drive line developed in Europe for the Mondo but never put into production. A 5 speed MTX-75 viscous drive, limited slip manual transmission is specially designed to accommodate the drive line."

The Cougar-S concept was an AWD 3.0, but it was just that - A CONCEPT CAR. A show piece for the PR tour.

The production Cougar S was going to be produced in 2001, as a Cougar with a complete SVT powertrain. The decision was made at the last possible second to NOT release it. The only parts SPECIFICALLY made for the Cougar-S were the engine badge, trunk badge, and logo floor mats, and a few Ford parts counters actually had them in stock before the model was cancelled. So there are a FEW examples of NOS parts out there.

WTF??? so you mean mercury could have done us all a favor and went ahead and made the darn thing so that by now a few of us could have had awd tour that would not have taken a complete fortune. Thou I can believe it still would have taken half of a fortune

actually theres quite a few more parts out there than just that.

I guess there were about 500 of those plaques produced, and appears to be the widest produced of the S parts. but there are also S guage clusters out there, S rims, S dual exhaust, S clutch and flywheel (seperate part number from the SVT but probably identical), and I want to say pedal assembly. There are SUPPOSEDLY 200 of the rims in fords inventory and was about a dozen of the exhausts, not sure about the guage clusters because it has a 700 core charge.

I would've been a god pickup for 10-20 bucks as they are hard to find. NECO had a GB for them a few years ago so theres a number of members who has some caches of them but they don't come up for sale often.

JnCsvt picked up a Cougar S clutch not too long ago and installed it. The general consensus is that it is the same as the SVT clutch.
