JRSC fitment for zetec

hey everyone, I know that there has been at least one contour that has had the JRSC installed on it (non svt). I have been seeking some form of FI for my cougars zetec and this seems to be a good option since I don't want to have so much power that I have to rebuild the motor or trans right away. with the jrsc and bbk it would take me to around 175whp which I think I would be pretty happy with. Ive even tracked down one that is only missing the tune.

What kind of fitmint issues might I run into. I dont think I am going to have to relocate the ps resivoir since the cougars engine bay has it tucked away more then in the focus. and that the focus has an egr system where the cougar has vct (like the post 98's) would I just have to block the lines for the egr?

I just found the instillation instructions from moss motors.
http://www.mossmotors.com/graphics/p...6066-ZX3BB.pdf
on a search here there was mention of modifying the alternator bracket too. How difficult is that? and is that for just the pre98's or for 98+ motors as well?

*EDIT* just realised that the forced induction section is under the duratec v6 category. this thread should probably be moved to zetec performance.

As far as fit...I am not too familiar with the Cougar engine bay. Some pics may help.

For the EGR, just need to fab up a block off plate for the EGR location.

You won't know about the brackets until you are doing the install. You may have to modify the ones you get or fab up some custom.

unfortunatly I dont have a ton of pictures of my engine bay, it doesn't get shown off really. and I seem to only take pictures when I am in the middle of changing something and have some wires unplugged.

here is what I have tho.
this pic is a bit of a closer shot right after I put on the contour valve cover. A concern here was the line running right along the left side of the timing belt cover. looking at the jrsc installed in a focus, it looks like it would run above the blower.

the next pic shows in the top left corner where my power steering resivoir is located.

and this is a stock focus engine bay for reference. not the ps resivoir difference.

and here is one with the jrsc installed on a focus

I am fairly sure that the cougars engine bay and zetec is the same as the post 98 zetec contours; so I have heard anyway, that's why I came here to ask.

The clearance from the pulleys to the fender may be a little tighter, but I doubt it. There's only 1" in there right now on a Contour. I guess that they could have it closer on a Cougar but getting the serp belt on would be next to impossible.

As for the non-SVT JRSC... Besides a tune, you will need injectors and either a Lightning/Mustang MAF or a Diablo MAFia. The stock injectors and MAF are pretty well maxed out stock.

Personally, I think that the non-SVT JRSC is a waste of time. (No offense Hector.) It is soo small. At it's max rpm, it will only flow 320CFM (about 220 crank HP). That's in a perfect world with a perfect tune. You're looking at 175 at the wheels with a MTX. All that work for not even 200HP at the wheels?!? Why bother?

The SVT JRSC flows 450CFM at max rpm. Or about 310 crank HP. For a stock Zetec with a stock head that's about 14psi. With cam gears and water/meth injection, you'd hit 240WHP. Add a FRPP head and turbo cams, you'd be just shy of 300WHP. You can overboost the JRSC to about 345 crank HP but you must have a high-flow head/cam combo. The JRSC gets really inefficient over 12psi. With a high flow head and cams, it will flow more which means more power with less pressure.

Add a 25shot of nitrous to that, and you'd be in the 325WHP range. Roots blowers love nitrous almost as much as turbos.

BTW, the SVT JRSC will bolt right up. You won't have to mess around with blocking EGR either. The SVT Focus didn't have EGR.

HTH,

you have a good point button puncher, the 175whp from the base jrsc would be fine at first but from the extra cost on the kit you are selling (would be about $500) It would probably be worth the extra potential within the bigger blower. I would still want to keep the blower at a level thats safe on the stock internals of the zetec to start with.

The base setup I was looking at comes with injectors and a maf. the main reason I was looking at it was because it came with everything except the tune and the power steering resivoir relocation bracket (which the cougar wouldnt need anyway)

my real concern that im still not clear on is mention of modifying the alternator bracket for clearance in the contour/cougar. I never really found anything detailed on it, just mentions.

i had to use a focus alternator and replace one of the bolts with a threaded rod with a nut on each end and a focus iac valve. i also had to modify the bracket that supports the whole lot under the manifold
heres a few pics of mine on my zetec mondeo..

those are some great pictures dc, what are the differences between the focus alt and the one you had? the Iacv isnt too much of a concern, should be able to fine one pretty easy, defiantly good to know. hector, did you use a different alternator with your install?

ok, well I think I am most likeley going to order buttonpunchers setup in the near future. I'm pretty excited; just have to make sure a couple things fit together:cool:

the kit i had used a revised alternator bracket (i believe there are two types) so the mondeo alternator fouled the intake manifold, only just though. i tried to grind away part of the alt. casing but it was getting to the stage where there wasnt a lot of meat left so i fitted the smaller focus alternator.

There's no way that a pre-98 alt would work with this kit. You'd have to use a 98+ or Focus alt.

It'd probably make sense to drop $120 on a new Ford Focus alternator. Please don't buy a AutoZone/Advance Auto alt. They are crap. I went through 3 and finally learned my lesson. The original Ford bearings in the original Ford Alternators are worth twice the cost.

BTW, the SVT JRSC that I have has the newer bracket.

I'm pretty sure that the alt in the cougar would be the same as a 98+ alt in the contour. It's probably a good idea to wait and see what I will have to do with the alternator. And if it has to be changed I defiantly wont be cheaping out in that department, My stereo has a max draw of 90A I know I need to keep my charging system up to high standards.

The 140A stock alternator is a real blessing. The only thing that I had to do was throw a ZXTuner overdrive pulley on it when I was running a crank underdrive pulley. Before doing that, it wasn't charging below 900rpms (idle while in drive).
