1995 Mystique 2.0 vs. Saturn ION 2.2

I don't understand.

You could walk into the bank tomorrow, and walk out approved for a $3000 loan to throw at an average SVT Contour and spank your buddy with his Ion all day long.

I bet your car payments would be about $100 a month.

Cuz i dont want to be like the rest of you guys. i want to be different, i cant afford a 3000 dollar car either. i like the 37 MPG the best though. even with mods i could still get over 30

with the right driving style, any mod short of a race tune, should increase fuel economy. Becuase the engine does not have to fight a restrictive exhaust or intake ect, making it easier and more efficient to produce the same amount of power(or speed).

 :nonono:

You sound like a silly kid to me :) I'm not sure what else I can say but keep searching. For the record, I'm not like all those other guys, I own a 96 Contour SE. The problem is it will never be fast, not without $2000 of work and $2000 more for aesthetic replacements. I didn't even include sticky tires or brakes in that assessment, but those aren't completely necessary right now.

And you say you can't afford a $3k car... well, I wonder when reality is going to plow you in the ass? :p

I would think this is not the case. A cold air intake will allow more air into the engine and therefore, the engine would use more gas to keep the air/fuel ratio correct. A short ram intake may increase fuel economy because of drawing hot air.

actually, a cold air intake (any intake really) will increase fuel economy. at a steady state the engine will only pull a given mass of air. while it may be denser air, the MAF will actually see less G/s of air, even though its the same mass as before. this will cause the engine to run slightly leane, which on pig rich factory tune will create more power. leaner also means better fuel economy.

An intake mod does not "allow more air" in the sense that you are saying. It doesn't "increase" the air being drawn in to the engine. It increases the ABILITY to draw more air in when demanded. This mod will increase fuel efficiency because the engine does not have to work as hard to draw in the same amount of air as it used to on the same load.

Hey 95_Mystique,

I just want to say that I can appreciate the enthusiasm you have for your car and I admire the work you put into maintaining a 95 -- it looks good.

Car stuff is all relative. Somewhere there's a Mustang guy laughing at us and a vette guy laughing at him and a ferarri guy laughing at him and so on. And I'm laughing right back because I love my cars. I hope you do too.

When I said ' more air' I was thinking the air being colder, so while the volume of air being drawn into the engine would be the same, it would be denser than on a stock intake.

you may be right, but MPG and engine efficiency still go up

ur right man, thanks for the support. i know my step dad is laughin at me for my attempts to make my car quicker (hes a corvette C4 owner), but i'm hoping one day my car beats his for less than what he paid for his car.

as for not bein able to afford a 3K dollar car, i cant. but what i'm saying about mods is, when i can spare the extra money, like 150, i can get the adjustible fuel regulator, and if i get an extra 250 laying around, i can get the header, and so on. first, i'm trying to save about 4K for next semester of school. i have this semester paid off as of tonight and so i wont have to worry about it now for 5 or so months, and i have all "bills" paid off till june. so all i'm payin for is gas and food. so once i get about 4K saved up i'm gonna start puttin every paycheck after that into MY car, not a new one.
