What has everyone done regarding oiling? I have a Taurus motor so it appears that the pan will not work. It's definitely deeper than the 2.5 pan. I'm thinking I will change the pan and the pickup to that from my 2.5. I did a 3.0 for another fellow and we used an Escape motor with a 2.5 pan. Don't recall any problems with the pickup.

Stock svt 2.5 oil pan and my '95 pickup tube on my '05 taurus 3L. Using the 3L heads I don't have to worry about the oil starvation due to bad drain-back but possibly "sloshing" of the oil in the pan. I will just add 1 more QT of oil.

Personally, I do not believe that the drainbacks are the cause of oil starvation. It's the windage tray on the 2.5's and all you have to do is compare it to that on the 3.0 to understand.

However, if you're using the pickup from the 2.5 it's necessary to change one of the upper to lower crankcase bolts. There's no stud to mount the pickup support otherwise. I used a modifed 2.5 windage tray which has additional drainback slots, a stainless screen and crank scrapers. This entailed changing 4 additional TQ to yield bolts with new. My 2.5 pan has 2 drainback baffles and a slosh baffle added. The improvements inherent in the 3.0 pans are overblown. Better to spend your $$$'s getting the stocker modded.

You can stick with the stock 3L pan. The only draw back is not being able to use two of the lower transmission bolts because the pan doesn't have those holes in the correct location. This hasn't been an issue for any of the 3L's I've built though.

Right, I haven't had any issues either with the 3Ls I've done, too...

Are you referring to the Taurus pan, the Escape pan or both? I've used a 2.5 pan with the Escape pickup successfully. Of course, you're best to have the correct pickup so it's got the proper dimension to the bottom of the pan. As I said already, the Taurus pickup reaches down deeper than the 2.5. I didn't try to install the pan but I suspect it would have been too close to the bottom. I'm not taking any chances with oiling.

yes match the pan to the oil pickup.

also what they are saying is you can just leave the taurus pan and pick up on the engine if you like, you just will not be able to use the two bolts that go through the pan into the tranmission.

That's correct I was referring to the Taurus/Sable pan.

Very interesting. I figured that the pan wouldn't clear the sub or the Y pipe seeing as how it was deeper plus it was meant for a different platform. I didn't even bother to measure. Figured for the sake of not having to screw around with something else (enuff already) I would use the 2.5 pan, tray and pickup. My pan and tray were heavily modded already. That way I KNOW they will fit. It did cost me a bit more for the new TQ to yield bolts though. Also noticed that the lower pan baffle is different on a the Taurus.

I put my 2.5L pickup tube on the 3l and noticed somthing wierd that no one has mentioned....
As you can see from the pics below, the pickup tube is hitting a stud. It doesn't dig into it it is just barely touching it.
What should I do, leave it?

And please confirm that I have the correct tray in the 2.5L pan(2.5L stock tray), correct pickup tube(2.5L stock pickup), and the correct tray on the bottom of the motor which is the 3L one.

You can use the 3L tray. I guess I've always stuck with the 3L tray. I usually drill out the 3L tray for the stud needed to hold the pickup down. Did you install those inner studs from the 2.5L motor?

No, I didn't install the inner studs. The only thing I changed on the 3L was the pickup tube and the o-ring. All the studs shown on the bottom of the block are like that. Why, does it look wierd to you that the stud hits the tube?

I think you have the pickup bolted down the the wrong stud. If you move the 2.5L pickup over to the 3L you need to remove the 3L tray, remove one of the block bolts and replace it with one that has a stud, and then drill a hole in the 3L tray so that the stud will stick through. Look at how the pickup mounts on the 2.5L and you'll see what I mean. The 2.5L pan won't fit with the pickup installed like that.

I installed the oil pan before reading this and it went on fine . I ground the top of that stud down a little so it wasn't touching the pickup tube, tha'ts it......
If I had the pickup mounted to the wrong stud then the two bolts that go into the oil pump wouldn't line up then, so I don't understand what I need to change based off what you said.....??

Not sure what 2.5 motor you're working with BUT if it's a 95 they have a 1 yr. only different pickup with regards to the mounting bracket. I wish I could do a side by side for you but I mounted my 96 pickup to the motor and the 95 is in a box, new from Ford. It has an F5RZ p/n. There'a a F6RZ starting in 96.

I'll post the pix of my setup as soon as I get them downloaded from my camera.

So mine is correct then. It is the '95 pickup tube and everything mounts and is located in the correct spots.

Did you have to change any of the mounting studs or bolts? I can see that you used the 3.0 windage tray as opposed to the 2.5.

I've noticed on my 3.0 that the tray mounting studs locate the tray slightly lower and closer to the pan. This caused interference with my screened tray and pushed the scrapers further away from the crank counterweights.

I didn't change any mounting studs or bolts. I used the 3L windage tray because the '95 windage tray has a different bolt layout and does not fit on the 2005 3L. So I just mouted up what fit and all is good. I measured the location of the pickup compared to the 2.5L pan tray and it is perfectly in the center, so it's gotta be right..... wierd
