(35 miles away) I have a 2004 3L DOHC lined up for $500 with 18,162 miles and is still in the car.
Good price for the mileage? I talked this guy down from $850 already, so I can't get it for less.

(77 miles away) There is a 2005 3L DOHC for $352 with 18,027 miles and is still in the car. Any reason for not using a 2005?

(22 miles away) There is a 2004 3L DOHC for $450 with 21,000 miles. I might be able to get it for less but probably not.

suggestions?

picking it up yourself or having it delivered?

the 2nd one sounds the best ... I payed $300 for an 04 with 17k ... but there was a slight price break ...

otherwise you need to look at them and see how they run if you can and pick the best one.

Me picking up. So has anyone used a 2005 motor before?

iirc qbcsvt did ... it already had the correct oil pick up that fit the escape oil pan that he used.

the 05 should be exactly the same as the 04. I believe it was the 06 that changed again.

Holy :censored::censored::censored::censored:, uhhhhhh, $350 18k DELIVERED! Out of a 2005!

yeah, but an OBD II motor in an OBD I. i cant say i've ever done a swap like that, but i know its gonna take a lot more than you might think. hasnt it only been done once? and the person that did it died

The only way to make that motor work in my '95 is to use any and all components that plug into my oem harnesses, hoses, sensors, etc. I am basically just using the block, internals, and heads - everything else will be off my 2.5 so there are no wireing issues.

joe,its certainly doable:cool: my only concern for you would be the wiring harness. we all know how :censored::censored::censored::censored:ty the pre98's are. it might be fine now..but once you start moving it around the sleeving is going to crumble. esp at 200k+ miles

It won't be an issue at all. I've already posted an 01 swap in a 95. This won't be too much different. Wish I was closer to help ya out.

I did have the harness recall done at 99k :) - That should help some.

Todd - wish you were closer too. I have Josh here to help too if I need it. I am debating if I should open up the motor to see if things are ok or if I can just do some pre-lubricating before it is installed . I don't want to open it up, but it was suggested by others on here....

Motor has been inside a humidity and temp controlled warehouse. Motor was pulled in '06 and has been plugged and wrapped since and inside.....

If you're planning to keep your car & driving it for as long as you can, open the engine & be sure of what you're dropping in. At the VERY least you should check and lube your lifters, rocker arms, cam journals, main/rod bearings, and chain guides & tensioners.

I think the largest thing is making sure the engine is primed with the plug off the coil. I think my first 3L went because of that.

except that you are still rotating the enigne with out oil until you turn it over. The only way to truely pre-lube these engines is to use a pressurized oil system to lube the engine. All because we cant turn the oil pump without turning the engine over.

but in the end we always crank the engine a few time to oil it before firing it up.

PM me with any questions. i intended to let you drive my car, but we left saturday evening from SZ. i'll make the trek out if you really need me, but i'm sure josh and you can handle the swap.

Well, because the new motor is on the way it gave me a little incentive to start tearing my 2.5 down. Things look odd to me, but this only being my second motor pull all I have to compare it to is a SVT engine bay. I am excited and dissapointed all at the same time. Hoping to hit 300k on my original motor in the future has been crushed because why would I put that old motor back in when I can have a waaaayy better one for pretty cheap.:)
It's just bad timing really, as my wedding is in August and we have had some major expenses come up in the last month :nonono:.
Something good will come of this.....
