Ok maybe im just a frustrated iddiot at the time. But when i took off the starter as was trying to tighten my stock pully back on. I could not get anything to grab, so i had the bring idea of using an allen wrench small enough to grab the flew plate teeth. DO NOT HAVE THIS IDEA!

It fell into the bell housing and almost made me have a heart attach and :censored::censored::censored::censored: my pants. simply enough i loosened the bolts pry'ed it appart and it fell out though.

Just a Warning up for those who have "bright ideas", when frustrated like me.

why are you taking the starter off to replace the pulley? I've taken mine off and put it back on a couple times with mye a impact, no need to take the starter off.

Lots of people don't have air tools. Taking off the starter is the only other way to do it without taking off the starter if you don't have an impact gun.

Am i missing something?

UDP??? that is an under drive pulley. You were cahnging an alternator. How does that = an UDP??

Impact gun to get in off, impact gun to get it on. Tool rentals help too.

I spent over an hour trying to get it off until I broke down and got an air gun.... took 30 seconds after that :D

I've heard of doing the breaker bar and cranking the engine to get it off, and then using loctite to keep it back on. Still, I don't think you can rent an impact gun... because you'd have to rent the gun, a compressor, and a hose.

What about if you already have an air compressor?

i didnt have the money for an impact gun nor did i have one. plus im not going to trust finger tight with lock tight to hold the pully on after. :blackeye:

so i had to take off the start lock up the flex plate and go from there. its even in manuals for the ATX

Yep, that's how your supposed to do it. I think they mention using a flathead screw driver though.

When I did this we used the 2 big guy method...one tightening, one holding a crowbar. When I did the supercharger...had an impact gun.

There are also electric impact guns that go for ~ $30...

Funny story about that. The short version, electric impact guns suck. If you look at the package the measurements are in in/lbs. We converted it into ft/lbs and the electric impact gun we had made 75ft/lbs of torque. We did some testing on the lugnuts and a fully charged battery only was able to release a nut that was torqued to 60 ft/lbs.

After this fact, my friend returned it and even told the home depot guy and he said it wasn't ment to take off lug nuts.

Correction....CORDLESS electric impact guns suck. I have an el cheapo corded impact from HF rated up to 240 ft-lb. Works fine for the occasional times you really need an impact and don't have or want to deal with an air setup. Cost? $39.99. Pick up a 14 piece set of sockets there for $19.99 and you have yourself decent impact tools for $60.
