I am doing a 3L swap into a 98 SVT and was wonder where the hell I am going to have it Dyno tuned?

Most of the places i have found within a reasonable distance from me are for LS/rear wheel drive motor/cars or front wheel drive ricers.

Anyone know where I can go?

By the way, I am in Union, NJ. It is basically Central/Northen Jersey, right next to Newark, about 20 min. to the City, Manhattan Staten or Brooklyn.

go to NPG and get a tune .... yes it is mail order but they are really good in tuning these cars. You can then data log and they will fine tune the tune I believe

NPG?

How could I get a Dyno tune mail ordered?

Doesn't my specific car have to be on the Dyno after the swap?

sorry, they can provide a tune via email, no dyno tune involved.

if you don't mind going out to Akron, OH there is a shop out there that has done dyno tuning on contours.

Ohio is way to far.

From reading posts, etc., everyone says after a 3L swap you need a dyno tune. How can a tune come via email?

Isn't a tune specific to each car?

I would figure you could get a set tune that is close, which is specific to all 3L swaps, in a ballpark vacinity, but it wouldn't be spot on to each specific car, would it?

correct it will not be spot on, but if you data log with your xcal2 or 3 that the tune comes on they can tweak the tune to make it better.

also what 3L swap did you do? all should be tuned but a straight 3L must be tuned because there are no more secondaries. a hybrid or ported 3L can run on the stock PCM, but should also be tuned.

Damn codin

Yes, each tune should be specific to each car, however, Tom and Joey have forgotten more than many of us ever knew about Contour's. They will send you a tune for your specific swap (trust me, they've seen it once or twice  )/. You will need an X-cal (1,2 or 3), to load your tune anyway. This device will also record info while you drive (called datalogging). From the datalogged info, they will fine tune your tune to get the best performance out of your car. They can tell this info from the parameters of your datalog, (They have powerful juju that way  ). If you contact Nautilis Performance Group, or send BurritaSvt (Joey) a PM, they will be able to explain in more detail what needs to be done. At the minimum, you will need a tuning device (X-cal seems to be preferred), and someone to "write" the tune. Since Tom and Joey have/had some of the baddest Contour's on the Planet (No offence to the rest of you crazy folks  ), trust that they will be able to handle your needs.

I had always understood a flip chip to be most beneficial to those that ran nitrous, or some other such power adder that was not continuously "on". Since he has a 3L, and always will, wouldn't a regular tune be good enough for him? Just wondering?

Either way I'd rather have the XCal, It only takes a couple minutes to upload a new tune and you can have up to three of them loaded on the unit at any time. The switch you have to worry about them corroding and getting poor connections, the XCal you have to worry about either losing it, breaking it, or having it stolen possibly while you have a performance tune loaded which means you wouldn't be able to go back to stock easily or vice versa.

I have not done the 3L swap yet.

I have aquired a SVT with a blown engine and found a garage that does a lot of engine swaps(although not normally SVT's) to do it at a decent price.

I am going to order one of the 3L's from Blackcoog.

I have to consult with him as well further into what he normally does with his swaps.

Thanks for the feedback, and keep it coming.

I am not very mechanically inclined besides doing an oil change or changing brakes.

Also I hope this helps, telling you where I am getting the engine from.

As TGO stated in another thread, you can try Crazy Horse, but the owner is primarily interested in tuning Mustangs. Last time we were there, he got us on the dyno, but was unhappy about it. He is right near the Woodbridge Ambulance Corps, off of Rt. 9. Which garage are you using for the work? I'm in Linden, we should have a meet meet meet! :)

I should have been posting on here a long time ago.

I see SVT's in our area here and there, but didn't realise there were so many of us on here so local, posting on these forums.

I also used to regularly see one in the Shooters/Skate 22 parking lot in Union on 22 E1 with no wing, and I have seen a red one E0 in Elizabeth from time to time. Some spanish dude owns it, I saw him one night at Orchard Liqours.

I also used to see one from time to time driven by an older lady around rush our in Springfield. It was a red E1.

I seen a spanish lady in a 2000 SVT contour, it's green, I have no idea where she is from though, she lives in this area some where though, the headlights are mad yellowed if that helps if you and a few other locals have seen her in this area,
