Right now I'm mostly set on Pioneer 4ways. Best buy has them for $99 a pair, but They are Here at Etronics for $57 per pair.

My stepbrother said he would give me his old head unit, but I have no idea on what I'm getting exactly.

Has anyone dealt with etronics before? Should I be looking at different speakers?

If you buy the service plan at Best Buy, they'll replace your speakers for free, which uses up the service plan, an you'd have to buy a new service plan for the replacements if your speakers ever were to blow.

I do like to buy online even though I work at Best Buy, that is if the price is right, if it's a couple bucks difference then I'll just buy it in the store. The only thing I recommend about buying online is to always read the warranties and reviews of the site. I've made mistakes in the past of buying from the cheapest online retailer, only to find they really suck and I have to fight tooth and nail to get the right stuff from them in the 1st place. I usually use pricegrabber.com to compare online prices of numerous retailers, mwave.com is another similar site. Most of my computer stuff though, I go through newegg.com, which carries much more than computers, but are pretty much known for their computer stuff.

An this is what I have in my car (last years models of what your looking at)

If you're merely asking if etronics is the real deal, then yes, I purchased a Sony remote control from them several years ago. The service was VERY fast, and the prices are nearly impossible to beat.
I'd recommend them any day based off my experience.

I'm a PC Build?Repair guy so I have over 10K of business with newegg. I never would have thought they carried car auto stuff though.

Damn good price on those speakers I mentioned earlier.

Thanks for the newegg heads up. I'll put my best buy gift cards somewhere else.

Should I go with the 3 ways or 4 ways? Do you guys think the extra tweeter is worth the extra $15?

I've never really compared the 3 vs 4 way setups, Mine sound very good IMO, I've cut the bass to them and only run them for high since I have subs.

I'm going to head to best buy later tonight and see if I can actually find a car audio guy. If I can compare them I will let ya know what I think.

Usually they have a display wall that has the selectable speakers so you can listen to them, I'd turn them up to a decent volume and swap back and forth and see what you like...

Personally I would go with a better quality 2 way vs a 3&4 way setup. Don't use bass blockers or turn the bass down on your fronts just because you have subs "if you do have subs". You should try to get as much midbass out of your front stage as possible and try to blend them into your subs. If you're willing to spend around 100.00 or so, you'll have MUCH better choices than what you're currently looking at. Post back with your max budget and I would be glad to offer up some suggestions.

Unfortunately most places that have a wall mount display have their speakers powered by amps as well. It sucks for the consumer because if they don't know this up front, they end running their new speakers off just the HU and they don't sound nearly as good as they did in the store.

I ended up buying a set of the 4 ways from newegg, and a 3 way set from bestbuy (due to gift cards). I'm installing the 3 way set in the back doors but im currently having a hard time removing the door panels and I don't want to break anything. How do you remove the rear (and front) door panels so you can get at the speakers?

Edit Found front. Still need rear door removal.

I'm looking for a removal of the rear doors as stated in above posts.

Last night I got the head unit. Its a JVC KD-LHX500 (Edit that is the model) Either way its a very nice unit, has touchscreen controls and motorized face. I also ended up buying a pair of the pioneer 3 ways from best buy ($50 in gift cards, $25 cash) and a pair of the 4 ways from newegg ($62 shipped).

The head unit is in and work flawlessly, but I can't get the rear door panels off. I'm guessing theres a hidden screw I wasn't seeing at 10 last night, so I'm working on it again today. Front speakers are going in when I get the speakers.

That FAQ should have it in there, but apparently not... my bad... that's suppose to have it detailed...

lets see... should be some screws around the edge of the panel, so make sure you start in the door jam and work your way around the edge up to the latching piece at least. Then in the hand hold there should be a screw, then the plastic hold should pull up an out... behind the door pull handle there should be a plastic cover over a phillips screw, remove that an the plastic around the door pull handle should come out (may be clipped in on the edges)... don't forget to unplug the power window control if you have one. If you have manual crank you'll have to get a tool to remove that.... You may have to pull a little on the door lever to get clearance to get that plastic out too and back in as well... then I think the panel should just lift up an off...

I have all the edge screws out and the grab handle. I didn't see a screw or screw cover in the latch, but I must have missed it. I still need to remove the hand crank for the window though...

there are 8 screws in all that have to come off you have to take off all the screws around the door. there are 6 two on right, two on the bottom, and two on the left. also the handle cover has to come off like the front. the last screw is in the plastic thing that you pull the door to close it (idk the name). the door should the come off like the front after they are all off

edit: oops my bad didn't read it all i thought you power windows

Auto zone, should have a tool for that to release the clip..

I can't find anything on autozone for it. I would really like to get these door speakers in tonight. Any ideas?

There has to be someone with after market speakers and manual windows.

Will a mod please change the title to "Upgrading Audio - Rear Door Removal"

You might be able to get the clip out with a pic tool, the clip is basically a U shape, open ends are usually pointing towards the handle of the crank... Autozone or any local auto parts place should have a window crank removal tool....

some image to help you

Typical window crank with clip shown... I've seen some other vehicles that have a screw in the middle of the crank, but this should be clip style....

I got it last night, I found the clip as your said and pulled it out with a flathead screwdriver. I got both rear speakers in, but one speaker screw on the right door stripped out. They sound good although highs are muffled compared to when the doors are off. The 4 ways for the front come in friday.
