Battery relocation

I need to relocate the battery from the engine bay to the trunk, any ideas on what grade/ gauge of cable I will need? Sorry if it's been asked before

Probably 2,1, or 0..... Stock alt puts out approx 160 amp, so you'll want something capable of carrying higher than that... I recommend 2 gauge or larger for battery relocation based on amperage capacity shown by this chart....

also make sure when you relocate the battery that you have it in a battery box or other sealed enclosure that has a vent to the outside air. You do not want the possibility of gasses from the battery to get inside your car.

Unless you're running an Optima or other such sealed battery.

Even though the "sealed" batteries say they don't need to be enclosed, I still highly recommend it. I have used Optima for years, and the last two I had (after a few years of use each) developed cracks in the plastic top near the posts and allowed gasses to escape sufficient to corrode the terminal connected to that post.

Again, it may not be "required", I still think it is a good idea. No harm should come from doing it, but harm "might" occur if you don't.

It also provides a layer of added protection to prevent accidental shorting from something in your trunk accidently making contact with the positive post and a ground at the same time.

Well, it's a good thing that there are the two vents in the trunk. I bet it would be easy to tap into one of them for the recommended airflow.

If you're mouting the battery in the spare tire well, just pop the nearest drain plug and replace it with a screen. No bugs or mice get in, and the battery has a vent just in case. I did this in my Focus and not a hint of dirt or grime has worked it's way into the spare tire well. Simple.
