I'm starting to rip the motor apart on the stang. I was at one time looking at a whole motor change but that will be in the future, my motor is solid right now and the compression test was spot on. i was doing research on mustang forums plus getting responces to postings on gains with stock parts such has the lower end and cam and was shocked to find the possible gains, while not huge, but nice streetable gains w/o any power adders for little money. I got info about a guy well known in the 5.0 forums by the name of tom moss who does awsome porting and I have sent out my intake and soon my heads.

I hooked up with a guy who has a very nice set up on the boards and started to talk with about a set up for me and what others where using when I decided to try his set up. he e-mailed me his dyno graphs and motor info and we talked on the phone the other day about my plans, great guy. I plan to run this set up until I'm ready for a new motor which will be way down the line. pretyy much it looks like this:

Intake;
stock Tom Moss ported lower(sent out)
Stock upper Tomm Moss port matched to lower & port matched to 65mm egr spacer + polished(sent out)
Ford racing 65mm Throttle Body and EGR spacer(on order from Jegs)
1995 Ford Cobra MAF(already have from ebay)
MAC fender mount CAI(already have bought from MAC)

Heads:
Ported Tom Moss E7's port matched on both intake and exhaust + polished then rebuilt with valve job and performance springs,
1.84intake/1.54exhaust and 1.7 rockers(tmoss and pauls machine shop)

misc.
Ford racing roller timing chain set with steel gears, just to tighten her up(already ordered from jegs)
stewart stage 1 water pump(need to get)
Aeromotive adjustable fule pressure reg.(need to get from jegs)
March underdrive pullies(need to get from March)
Ford racing ceramic headers (Jegs)(my bbks are rusting and are crap)
custom h-pipe with high flow cats.(jeffs custom exhaust works)
arp fasteners

I'm going to run 16degrees of timing and adjust the fuel pressure has needed with his help but most likely get it tuned. this set up flows well over 200cfms and nets a big gain between 0-4,500rpms and better gain to 6,000rpms over stock.

he dynoed 280hp/319 tourqe at the wheels on 18degrees and 40psi I'm not looking for this at all nor am I going to run that much timing or fuel pressure. I'm going for atleast 260-265hp at the wheels and tourqe in these motors is easy to get, with my 3:73's in the rear this combo should be spot on the rpm range. these cars are light and I'm sure it will move nice. I'm doing all the labor and the cost is really cheap since I'm using my heads and intake. not a bad project so far and it's moving along but it will along time before it's on it's way and hopefully maybe next fall/winter it can get to the body shop for it's strip down rebuild but it also could be the year after that, oh well no rush. I'll take pics soon and use this thread has my update post.

just curious as to why just a 65mmtb?i've seen 3.8 guys run bigger than that and show gains..just wondering is all:confused:

alot of people get confused or get into this thing about bigger is better, when 99% it is not. I have done alot of reading but it really doesn't take much really and even when you purchase new TB most mustang sites tell you what size you should use. A 65mm TB on a 5.0 supports well over 350hp and it's not too often that you will see over a 70mm and those guys are running bigger H/C/I combos and superchargers/turbos you will see a little bigger like 75 or 80mm depending.

65mm will get a gains over stock on a V6 or V8 & 70mm is overkill on a stock motor even with mild mods and would require more porting of the stock upper intake since stock is 60mm or would force buying an aftermarket. 70mm on a stock upper w/o porting would cost hp over a 65mm w/o. even the 3.8 guys have to port match the upper with the 65mm or they will restrick the airflow coming in since the opening doens't support a 65mm. I never plan even with my new motor down the road to run more than 400hp at the crank and the crate motor I'm looking at is rated at 360hp so I can use my 65mm TB and new MAF, headers etc. which was the plan when doing this.

65mm in a nut shell with ported stock parts and stock cam is plenty even with a mild cam custom grind, B or E cam still plenty. thanks for your interest  .

just buy my g/f's stang its fully built with less then 1000 miles its has 500hp on the ground on the stock ecu lol

LOL. no thanks not into verts. I'm a normally asperated guy no juice or power adders, plus I want a nice streetable ride, I'll be running a/c in the summer and under 400hp for the street is plenty to me even 350hp is enough for my future plans. I'm still working on the chassis too, I really like road racing and handling and don't want the power to over take the car and make it to much of a handful in the twisties. Not into big numbers but thanks for the offer , plus with the list of cars I got one more and the wife would run me over with one  .

Hey everyone, just wanted to give an update on my project. yes it's still apart and on going, actually I'm waiting for more parts. I have been taking pics mostly with my 35mm to put in my photo book of the resto of the car. I have made some changes and upgrades since the original post and spending money like a sailor on whores  .

I got the Tom moss ported stuff and they look like art work, a shame I have to bolt this stuff on. he does nice work.

I went with JBA ceramic headers instead of the ford racing ones. I talked with the tech guys about thier firecone collectors and liked the low end torque gain, a little more $$ but a very nice header.

I didn't like the looks of the 95 70mm maf I got fom ebay so I bought a new reman one from ford and used that one has a core, I also bought all new sensors that where listed for my car(the car is old and the piece of mind will be nice) thanks to steve at tousley. I also picked a maf adaptor from kkm. I'm also putting in brand new injectors all 8 nice and new to top it off.

I decided another upgrade to do was a 3g alternator swap. dumping the stock crappy 75 amp for the newer 130 amp. I bought a pa performance alt powder coated silver and upgrade wire harness to carry the xtra load.

I didn't go with the stewart water pump but went witha ford hi-flow import (europe spec) unit from ppi, and I'm doing a full a/c delete with the ford kit reloctaing the power steering pump where the non a/c cars have it and using the stock non a/c belt.

I'm also running autometer pro comp gauges. I bought the triple gauge cage that installs in the center a/c vent spot. ihave oil pressure, water temp and volts for gauges.

I also got a ford racing aluminum drive shaft and mgw short throw and I'm going to finally install my maximum motorsports k-member brace.

other than some chrome oem valve cover and new harmonic balancer everything else is on par. The ups truck driver knows me by name know  and the wife gives me a look and says "your friend is here" when he pulls up *bows down to the loving wife who lets me have my hobby*.

I have had some swearing matches with my car and I'm not done yet but I thought I would let guys in on the updates. I'll let you know when she fires and hits the street.

well it's all done and running. she feels alot stronger now with the ported stuff, pulls really hard. sounds really good with the jba headers and the new h-pipe. I took it down old rt.15 to test it out the first few launches I broke loose through 2nd gear before she hooked, so I had to modulate the throttle but the car just pulls harder than before down the straights. It got alittle tail happy coming out of a few turns when getting back on the throttle so I have to relearn this from before, but correcting it wasn't an issue. the car just sounds pissed when you get on it  . I know it's just NA and not boosted but it's pretty good for what I did to it and compared to stock. when just cruising she is mild mannered and runs smooth which is what I wanted nice cruising and some more power when I jump on it if I want it.

I do have some I just have to join a hosting site, I just don't trust stuff like that. The other stang forums I can post them right from my pic file on my computer but not this site  which I like much better. I have more detailed pics on my regular 35mm camera I had to steal my sons digi camera from him when I could to snap pics, he would say only if have clean hands LOL.

If I post a pic that way this what I get.
attachment.php

anyways this is almost finished pic, i put some more bling under the hood chrome wiper motor cover, ps pump, maf sensor, etc. still need to do strut brace but pia on these cars and I'm tired if wrenching for right now. I would have to take of a couple of days here in there during this, it was hell on my back and neck. I told my wife my project days are getting close to ending  . My mind can do it but ever since the injury I can only lean over or strain for so long or I pay the price :nonono: . I'm even think of selling the bike, I went to qaubbin which is about has as far I can go on it and man I was hurting biiig time.

That is one nice winter beater you have there :D

LOL . Thanks I used to have an old saturn coupe, then a 96 sable that some of the older members remember. they where for my daily driving and winter driving, hence the winter beater, when the tour went into storage. I bought this 06 taurus sel to replace the sable and didn't want to hassle with any more old used cars and the repairs. this one is loaded with leather, the roof etc. and has extended xtra care warranty for 7yrs 70,000 I wont see the 70,000 the car has only 22,000 now and I don't drive it much  although the wife will steal it every now and then  .

hmm, did the new forums updates now allow us to host pics from our computers? mine just popped up for all to see w/o me doing anything.

now I have to do more...
