708 Code 00 V6 100,000

Is there anything new on this code or is everyone pretty sure it is the MLPS?

Also, on my 95 V6 with 151,000 mi I am seeing what appears to be transmission fluid on the ground under the engine. Does this spell trouble?

P0708 2000 V6 would be an issue with,

1) MLPS
2) MLPS Connector
3) Wiring from MLPS to PCM
4) PCM

Check wiring, connector, change MLPS or PCM.

95 tranny leak. Clean area under engine/tranny. Sprinkle talcum powder on the engine/tranny area. Then after a few hours of driving, check to see where leak is coming from. It could be as simple as a loose fitting.

The MLPS (manual lever position sensor, in the old days, the neutral safety switch) is a known common problem. As the switch ages, the lubricant inside migrates into the contact points. After a cursory look at the wiring, I would start with the switch.

I wanted to make sure I mention that when the slipping occurs in my transmission the tachometer goes crazy. I have read on some of the historic posts that this may indicate something other than the MLPS. I think something called the VSS was mentioned.

I have an appointment with a transmission shop for Monday, 31 Dec to replace the MLPS. They estimate parts & labor to be approximately $200. They have the MLPS in stock.

Wanted to let everybody know that replacing the range sensor took care of my problem. A transmission shop in Richmond, VA replaced it for $138 total for part & labor.
