I've heard allot of talk about 1/4 mile times for Turbo and all motor cars. I was wondering what kind of times are supercharged contours putting up? (Yes, I searched)

Buckshot would be the guy to ask about that. he's probably run at the track the most with a supercharger. most of the guys with the old vortech kit are still trying to get the shaft to stay together ;)

It'd be interesting to see blackcoog's new setup make a pass

325whp should do better than 14.1

One would assume that. Now, Rich(Buckshot77) openly admits he's no 1/4 mile guru, but I believe he was running mid to high 14's with his S/C'd SVT. He was making similar power IIRC.

With a good driver didn't they get stock svt's into the high 14's?

Having owned a supercharged SVT Contour for some 5 years now (second to last generation jackshaft still intact), I can say that my SVT is not a 1/4 mile car and would lose to even my 2002 Grand Prix GTP. As already noted, power under the curve, and especially torque under the curve is lacking.

I have already had some impromptu runs with my SRT-4 buddies, and they surely take off from a dead stop, but coming through 2nd, into third and beyond is a totally different story (compared to stock turbo SRT-4's, mods or no mods). My SVT pulls like a dickens once your going, and pulls harder and harder as the speed increases. In other words, hate to say it, but it's like a VTEC Honda, all mid to top end power. My SVT is capable of topping out 5th gear. I will admit, that I have buried the speedo in mine and beyond, granted the SVT speedo's are off by 10mph high at over 150mph.

I have been asked by many of my Ford buddies to take the SVT to the 1/4 mile track. I have to disappoint them because I always tell them NO, it's not a 1/4 mile car. It's an Autobahn car. Now, take the car to Germany or any highway with near unlimited speed limits, and that's where my SVT would shine. :D

Wow thanks for all the insight everyone, especially Chris. I would have thought the a supercharged contour would pull allot better in lower gears but I get what your saying Chris.

anyone know where the updated jackshaft can be obtained? my buddy is rebuilding a Vortech'd csvt right now and that's pretty much all it needs.

You can send it back to Vortech, apparently. I had called them in the past, and since I still have the Vortech certificate, they would then have fixed it/updated it under warranty (since they had so many failures). I would have been responsible the removal of the entire supercharger jackshaft assembly and supercharger, and of course, for the cost of shipping there and back to me.

I'm not sure if they would do it for free now.

I wish it had more low end, but I am guessing that because they used such a small supercharger (for packaging reasons), it doesn't move enough air at low rpms to produce "Mustang" like low end power. The other thing is the boost level, 9.5psi max on my boost gauge, lower now with the aftercooler (Buckshot) at some 7.5 to 8psi. Vortech most likely kept the boost under 10psi as not to blow up the Duratecs. (or because of their computer chip tunes at the time).

Frankly, I would think that because there is a blow off/bypass valve in the set up, we could run smaller pullies (but not to overdrive the supercharger past its efficiency) to bring on the boost sooner and use a boost controller to limit the maximum boost to a safe level.

Even though I don't drive my SVT much, it's still fun to play with. Another thought. I could get an adjustable Turbosmart Bypass valve with built in adjustable boost level and try that. The Vortech kits use the same basicBosch bypass valve as with VW 1.8T's. ;)

my buddy said he called them and they said they want absolutely nothing to do with the contours any more.

that's sad. time to turn to independent machine shops then. or save some dough and call up blackcoog, he's got complete kits ready to ship out (last i talked to him)
