Flori-duh, well at least my vote counts here
OK, here is my question, hopefully someone can help me out.....

About six weeks ago I got two tickets in my subaru (one for parking, the other for the inspection being invalid). At the time the car was owned and registered to my stepfather. Last week he sold it to me, and now it's registered in my name with new plates (naturally).

My question is, if these tickets aren't paid, what exactly can they do? He doesn't live in NY anymore (my stepfather), doesn't have a NYS license, nor does he have any cars registered in NYS. I don't see that they could suspend his license or registration (being out of state and that he doesn't own the car anymore). And they obviously can't affect his credit rating, so I am not sure what reprocussions (sp) might be? I assume they will just send him a few reminders in the mail, realize they can't do jack, and let it go.

Perhaps someone can chime in on this.

TIA

Since it's a non moving violation, i don't think they'd be able to mess with his record in another state...if they even recognise offenses from other states...however, if you don't pay parking tickets they will issue a bench warrant for your arrest.

As long as he doesn't get pulled over driving in NY he should be fine. I don't know if that would carry to another state either.

i would just pay the tickets and be done with it.

yeah i mean it's not a felony, but if you get stopped standard procedure is a warrant check. you're not gonna do time, but you're gonna spend the night in jail and see the judge in the morning.

Over two parking tickets? I know they will if you have a certain amount, but I wouldn't think two tickets would qualify for that (although I don't know the law per se).

I have no doubt that this would cause the least amount of headaches, I however have a slight aprehension to paying parking tickets in NYC.

Why do you have a slight apprehension about paying parking tickets in NYC?

Yes, over two parking tickets they will issue an arrest warrant. The right thing to do, pay up. You really don't want to have your stepfather hassled because you didn't pay the tickets, do you?

they're not gonna come looking for you, but if you get pulled over in ny then you're going to the klink until you see the judge.

what are we talking? $150 tops? just pay it man.

so long as your still using the same plates pay the ticket. If you were moving onto a diff. car you can play games if you want to take the risk, but if a cop sees u speeding a bit and calls in the plate, your screwed where you otherwise would've been fine.
