Im picking up a '99 SHO duratec 3 this weekend. will swaping cams and **** give me a substantial gain or should i just leave it? thanks in advance.

SHO doesn't have a Duratec. And could you define "and ****," because that's a pretty broad term. Welcome to the site.

The 99 SHO has a V8 and there are no V8 Duratecs. The original Tarus SHO was a Yamaha V6 bearing no relation to the Duratec other than Intake runners looking similar.

Really? I thought they ended in '98, but hmm this changes everything, if it's the last year Ford probably turned to the trusty unused parts bin for that model year, so maybe it does have a Duratec

i think some people get confused on 99 since they stopped using the SHO only wheels and just went with 5 spokes that were available on the sport models. other than that it is the same as my 98 SHO with other slight little trim changes, and there is NO similarities to the duratec

Actually, the SHO V8 is a Duratec. It is a 2.5 V6 with two more cylinders, a balance shaft, Yamaha designed heads, and assembled by Yamaha.

actually designed and parts built by yamaha, but was assembled at the winsor plant in Canada

the sho is weird i never heard of a 3.4 litre v8,(my dads explorer has a 4.2 litre v-6) i had a choice between that and the tour and i choose a tour for many reasons

haha, i was going to chime in here and say that, except i didnt know all the specifics. john the sho guy who did my 3L explained that to me. he is a sho afficianado and does cam welds on a weekly basis. im just suprised that some of the people in here saying theyre not duratecs didnt know that.

I was talking to a ford employee who said it may be possible to cram the 3.4 in the tour w/o any MAJOR mods. What are your thoughts on this everyone? thanks for your comments.

i don't think it is worth the trouble,, you would basically have to widen the frame to make room,, plus you would have to use the automatic tranny that came with the sho(no 5 speed avaibable) and you would basically have to use every piece of the sho harnesses computers probably fuel pumps and so on and so on.
