Who likes thier cars stock, or heavilly modded?

threads have been merged since they were essentially the same thing.

Thank you Rara, and I did delete the post on the first page... that was my mistake... And I did hopefully post as to reliability issues with blowers and turbos elsewhere...

My humble apologies.

I did use the search and did find a few things, but no comparoes between turbos and chargers... however, I did want to see what everyone wanted from stock to modded...

Smiles and bows

try reading the stickies in the forced induction section?

Also there are a couple good threads in there like http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=42126 where you can learn more about the differences. There are a few other threads, but that one is nice and recent and has lots of relevant information to what you are asking.

The people who make the kits for our cars are fairly smart so they build reliable stuff. The only question is whether you will beat it to death or not.

I'm a big fan of heavy modifications to suspension, drivetrain, braking, and interior/exterior. Engine mods never really did it for me, I get the most enjoyment out of cars when I feel like they're an extension of myself. UpgradedSwaybars, high quality tires, Torsen diff, upgraded steering racks, etc... anything that makes the most of the stock power. I want my steering wheel to be a point-click-interface. The engine mods I do prefer relate to exhaust note and throttle response.

I like things stock, to a point.
Mechanically, stock (I have removed several aftermarket parts that were on the car when I bought it).
Interior, there are some smaller things that could stand for improvement ... audio, lighting, etc.

It also depends on your definition of 'stock.' I have recontented a few items in the car, as well as changed parts from other Contours. These parts were options available in other Contours so I consider it a stock item, though it did not come on my car from the factory.

Having owned both, both have their pro's and con's.

My bone stock 99 SVT is so much more reliable than my 96 SE which had just about everything modified on it from the engine, brakes, transmission, brakes, electrical, etc. I know when I go out in the morning to start it up, its going to fire right up. There's no quirks about the car at all. I get the occasional P0420 code but thats about it. The suspension isn't as tight as what it used to be and in my mind its pretty slow, but I still enjoy driving it.

On the other hand, my turbo 96 was a blast to drive when it was running right. I loved crusing in that car, even if you did smell like oil after you got done driving it since it burned through a quart of oil every 500 miles. Of course, the BAER brakes shuttured because they wore unevenly, the idle was awful from the turbo kit, the battery would be dead by morning if you didnt disconnect the battery, the car would overheat if you didnt let the car warm up for like 15 minutes because the BAT electric waterpump was so fickle. I'm sad to see the car go, but it's nice to have a car thats problem free.

Stock pretty much. The only thing I've done to my mystique is tint and exhaust, well I guess I gutted my airbox too but I don't know if that counts. I just like it loud I guess but I like the reliability of a stock car, 114k and it runs and drives perfect, needs a little suspension work but thats it. It's fun to spank little honda ricers and make them mad by laughing at them and stating that they just got beat by a stock mystique lol. basically my bike is my fast toy, I run mid to low 13s on a cruiser so it's fast enough for me.

I can't stand to have a Plain Jane car that doesn't have something done to it. Mainly because I like my car to stand out and be different from someone else that could have the same car.

I think for me it would depend on the condition of the car when I first got it. My t-red was pretty trashed when I bought it, except for the engine, and so I want to do whatever I can to improve its "curb appeal". :) I do plan on doing f/i eventually, but the car needs aesthetic and functional improvements before I add the extra hp.

If I found a beautifully maintained SVT with low miles and was obtaining it for a show/collector, I would keep it stock. It would be hard.... but I could do it.

I like stock appearing.. I have a ported 3L open the hood it has stock intake with a K&N stock exhaust manifolds soon to have a performance y pipe. PO deleted the resonator and added performance mufflers but kept stock tips stock e1s etc may go to Fsvt rims. what can I say a little boring but fun to drive. now I'm going to try a full 3L but I want to make it look stock....

nothing wrong with stock if it isn't boring. boring cars beg for lots of mods so you don't fall asleep while driving. give me a stock CSVT etc over a boring auto trans blah mobile can you say corolla, sentra, protege, escort, taurus, malibu impala
