I am going to be installing my new water pump.....I heard somewhere NOT to use sealer with these.....but the instructions say to use it.

I'm 90% sure that we put some sort of sealer between the pump and gasket, and then between the gasket and block, but I'm not absolutely positive...

no sealer necessary, just make sure the gasket surface is clean of all old gasket material and is dry.

98+ don't even use a gasket. Just a black o-ring.

Used a THIN layer of Silicone Sealer.
Seems to be ok.
