I love to hunt for used cars. Not that I'm always buying, though sometimes I wish I were. If it were up to me, I'd save all the cars that I could -- it would sure make for one large array of Detroit iron.

I'd like to hit the lotto and have a beautiful, old barn full of Thunderbirds, Mustangs, Cougars, Taurus SHOs, Town Cars, Continentals, Crown Vics, Trans Ams -- the list goes on. I'd also like that barn to have a bar and a nice leather couch down one end. And a lift at the other, next to the entrance. It would be rustic, but clean. But I digress.

What are the cars that really turn you on when you cruise around looking at classifieds? Whether you're in the market or not. Post the ads here.

Here are a few that caught my eye:
1988 Mercury/Ford Cougar XR7 40,000 orig mls AWESOME - $4900 (Palm Beach)

Reply to: sale-897842699@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-10-29, 9:30AM EDT

Beautiful all original Cougar XR7, white with red velour interior, loaded. I bought this car out in California this summer and drove it from there to Palm Beach. I am the 2nd owner. The original owner traded it in. I took it to a Ford dealer out there to have it checked over and have fluids changed for it's voyage across the country. She only had 36k miles when I left and I put 2900 on it to get it here without any problems.
Little description:
Original white paint beautiful always garaged, even the original factory red stripe is perfect.
Red velour (remember) interior in perfect shape still smells new.
All power features work perfect even the factory installed amplifier for the am/fm cassette stereo.
Powerful 5.0 engine purrs.
Transmission shifts perfectly.
Brand new tires I added before I left California ( old ones dry rotted )
Body and undercarriage are in perfect shape, no rust any where, undercarriage looks brand new.
Factory Fin rims are perfect.
The only mark in the car is the passenger mirror was scratched.
You could honestly drive this car anywhere on earth with comfort and ease. When driving across country, i couldn't believe how comfortable she is.
I have picture's I can send if you would like to take a look, so just email me.
Only reason I'm selling is to buy a Fox Body Mustang Convertible. You can call me if you want to chat; 561-588-8989
Thanks

1984 Ford Thunderbird Elan - $1 (West Covina)

Reply to: sale-919560514@craigslist.org [?]
Date: 2008-11-14, 5:12PM PST

This is a 1984 Ford Thunderbird Elan in nice condition and a original owner California car. Original Paint car. Car runs great and Transmission shifts smooth. This car has always been well maintained. Never in any accidents. Recently Passed Smog and registration is current. Call Brian at 626-962-5310

I need $1,100 for the car and that comes with a smog current smog check.

Elan Edition
Factory Two tone Paint
V8 302
Power steering
Power brakes
Cruise control
AM/FM Cassette Premium sound package
Leather
Power windows
Power Door Locks
Tilt Wheel
Air Conditioning(needs service)
TRX package

Originally purchased brand new at Galpin Ford in Van Nuys, Ca. As you can see this car has not been abused. This car has never been in an accident. It has a couple of splits in the front seats, and the headliner has a couple of tears, the silver paint is a little foggy in spots, the rear bumper has some bubbling in the clear coat. I can remember when my parents bought this car new. I wish I could keep it as it's a very nice car. Someday I'll be kicking myself for selling this. I just don't have the room for it and it needs to go to someone who can give it the care it needs.

Next year in 2009 in can be registered as a Caifornia historical vehicle and could be a smog exempt car.

Little lofty on the price, but...
Mustang SVO - the rarest, 1985.5, only 439 produced. - $12000 (Highland, MI)

Reply to: see below
Date: 2008-10-20, 7:14PM EDT

1985.5 Mustang SVO, 2.3l, fuel injected, turbocharged, intercooled. Near ground up body repaint in 2002, more than excellent condition. Black exterior with grey cloth interior in very good condition.

Complete engine rebuild in 2006, 84,000 original miles, original owner. Head is ported and polished, roller cam, balanced crankshaft, log header, 3" downpipe to dual 2.5" exhaust, T3/T4 hybird turbocharger, Gillis boost valve, blow-off valve, 190psi fuel pump, pillar-mounted boost gauge and fuel pressure, K/N cold air kit, Spec stage II clutch, new.
The SVO is a unique car. Only 4 models were produced: 1984, 1985, 1985.5 and the 1986. This one was assembled on the last day of assembly for the '85.5, August 1, 1986. More than just a turbo-rocket, the steering and suspension is unique and phenomenal - highway driving makes this car a "dream-machine"!
Many, many extras: original parts that have been upgraded/replaced, extra parts for future use, many Ford shop manuals which are difficult to find, magazine articles, documentations and receipts, and model kits in original boxes.

Call: 248-889-9910, serious lookers/offers only, leave a message please.

Yes, I can appreciate that. I'm a bit better at it than I used to be. Time was, I'd get excited in a hurry about some car that I found, then start scheming for a way to bring it home. One day, I was musing about driving a 1984 Tempo back from Washington State. I'm a bit more mellow now. Comes from having actually bought more cars, I think, and the realization that you just can't support them all.

Did Cobra see the Mercury Grand Marquis' that I posted up in the "For Elky" thread? Man, there were some deals in there!

Selling a CLEAN black 1988 Conquest Turbo(same as a Mitsubishi Starion)

Have done a lot of work to the car, its very fast and has had the engine re-built at 76,000 miles, it has 77,000 miles now. I have a list of all the items that were done to the car, costing nearly $7000!

Car came with SHP package which includes larger wheels (8 inch wide wheels in front and 9 inch on rear) and 8 way adjustable shocks.

Motor was rebuilt by Top End Performance in North Hollywood with their Performance Street engine.
http://www.racetep.com/starengine.htm

New pistons, flywheel, radiator, intake pipes, down pipe, 3 piece hard pipes with blow off valve, HKS catback exhaust system, street racing clutch, stainless steel oil line. New brakes all around with Stainless steel brake lines and master cylinder. Many new hoses and belts, ignition wires, rebuilt alternator. Rebuilt turbo (previous owner). May need new turbo soon.

I had the aluminum wheels polished to a chrome-like shine. Looks great on a black car, plus with 5% tinted windows all around.

Need to sell soon, have clean title in hand and ready for a quick no hassle sale to right buyer. Must sell ASAP, price negotiable.

This is a one-owner car in very clean condition. New carpets, headliner, water pump and timing belt recently. Battery and tires have virtually no mileage on them. Ran well until short while ago. Began getting harder to start in cold weather. Turns over freely but won't start - probably ignition or mixture. Computer system is covered by a shop manual included with car.

Rich Man's Mustang (Lincoln Luxury Sports Coupe) - $1200 (Haverhill, MA)

Reply to: sale-922788031@craigslist.org [?]
Date: 2008-11-17, 1:34PM EST

1988 Lincoln Mark VII LSC (Luxury Sports Coupe).
This car is a classic. It starts right up no problem. Runs awesome! Much power! Has the 5.0 liter high output, fuel injected V8. Brand new battery. This is the special BILL BLASS edition and has the sunroof. Fully articulating leather seats, perfect stainless steel exhaust, etc. It has the works! Suspension airbags actually hold air! Air pump also works fine.

I bought it as a project car to make a kick-ass hotrod out of. Replaced front rotors, calipers and pads. I also bought an entire extra car's-worth of body parts including both front fenders, both doors, the hood and the trunk lid. All of the extra parts are in fine shape. They get sold with the Lincoln. Also an extra radiator, even though the one in the car is fine.

I went and had another kid so the poor Lincoln sits outside (always under a car cover), mocking me. I don't imagine I will get to work on it any time soon so for the sake of this beautiful 2-door machine, it should go to someone who will give it the attention it needs.

Car runs and drives fine. I still need to replace a single brake line (From master cylinder to front right wheel...easy fix.)For this reason, I can only call this a "project car" as it will not pass Massachusetts inspection the way it is.

Car has sat a while now. Rot has appeared on bottoms of doors and over wheel wells. Also on rear panel. Again though... I have a separate set of body parts for this car so no biggie for the right person to swap out those parts.

The LOW end value of this car, according to NADA, is $2,800. The high end value is $7,875. Here's a link to the NADA values: http://www.nadaguides.com/default.a...988&m=1202&d=8114&c=12&vi=99897&z=01830&da=-1

I am selling this car for only $1,200 (or best reasonable offer). That's HALF of the low-end cost because it needs work and also because I can't stand to see it sit there for another whole winter. PLEASE come get this car and treat it nice before the first snow comes, otherwise I will end up snowblowing piles of snow on it and it won't be seen again until spring. Get it now while the gettin's good. Make me a real offer and it's yours.

Might I inquire as to the interest in the Aspire?
lol .. I like the aesthetics for some reason. Would be a good candidate for Honkeytonk Monkey-style off-roading. :)
Thankfully the new Accent resembles it so much I'd probably go there instead.

Here's a question about no one else would ask you -- do you prefer the original, more boxy nose, or the later, more organic nose with the suspended Ford oval in the grille?

And a question you might get from anyone -- have you driven one? Have you felt the burn of 65 ragged, raging horses under your right foot?

My roommate in college had one. It was ok on flat land.
