swaping to a 2000 focus 2.0L engine

Unless the sensors are identical, and postioned in the EXACT same way as on a normal Zetec, the PCM won't know what to do.

The cam position and knock sensors would be the critical ones.

If you do the 2.3L swap, please take detailed pictures/notes. That'd be a really sweet mod. Plus all of the turbo kits available.

I'd love to open my hood and see...

If the cam, and crank sensors are in the same relative location - as are the pickups - should be OK. As long as the signal is the same in the other sensors, it doesn't matter where they're located - the wires could be spliced. I think I'll look under the hood of a few of these Focii.

If the transaxle they put on the 2.3L even fits, the half-shafts probablly don't fit. They probablly have a different number of splines too. So, you'd have to have some custom half-shafts made.

Does that engine use direct-injection? If so the Coutour PCM also wouldn't work for that reason.

Way too much work to be worth it.

Good point about the tranny mating up. I wonder if it is similar, or can work with a Contour. I'm just kickin' the ideas around and getting some information splashed into the board. I've definately gotta research more & get some pictures maybe. Perhaps there have been discussions on the Cougar board...

if you could get half shafts from a junkyard that go with the 2.3l focus all you should have to do is take the inner spindles/cv's off the focus half shafts, take inners off the contours and put the inners from the focus on the rod and outers of the contours and put them on the contours. all you'd have to do is verify that the 3 ball cv joints are compatible. I do know ford likes to use common parts as much as possible especially on the small through mid size sedan lineups and know that the cv's are the same design from a 2l escort to the 2.3 focus. there's more to explain but I'm stop here for the sake of typing forever, but if you want more pm me.

Just looked up some shafts on trademotion for both engines and they do look very similar, the only way to verify though is to look at them side by side
