MI Axle Rebuilding

They will be stronger, our normal process is welding the tripod and inner race as that is generally the weak spot for 99% of todays axles. We have a couple of new heads coming in that will hopfully be the same design as the ones you guys buy for $$$.

On most "performance" axles, there is nothing special other then welding the tripod/inner race, high performance boots, and a real nice writeup making the axles sound amazing. Occasionally a shaft or internal swap is done such as with the pontiac HD axles. Fully custom axles would cost well over a grand each, which is why neither me or Mike (who has been in the axle business for 30 years) have never seen an actual custom axle.

After all doesnt this look alot like this as far as outboard spline design.
The fault with the stockers is the small diamater between the housing and the spline. Aftermarket heads continue the same diamater as the spline all the way to the housing, making it much stronger. the same head is used on the $80 reman's as the $300 stage 2's. If the rest of the axle is built around this new head you won't have any issues. Also all axles are factory heat treated, which you can see when you pull a cv off and clean it.

Once we get the new heads in and get a pair built we are going to weld the tripod but not the inner race on the outboard, incase we get breakage during testing. We will need a built 3L or something with good power in order to test out the axles. We have a full shop so swapping out axles is nonissue.
