KKM True-Rev Sport Induction

ok guys, keep group buy posts in the group buy forum and lets keep this topic on track with discussion of the KKM.

I have temp data that I logged over the weekend. I'll post some plots up but I never saw anything over 60 degrees at the IAT

I moved the battery to the trunk a while back. That may be the culprit for the high temps but I don;t really think so.

I think that would allow more air flow while driving.

my car started out in a garage, hand not been driven since chistmas, started out at 54 degrees and it dropped into the 40's as I started driving. It slowely came up into the 50s on the highway and alittle stop and go. I didn't see 60 until I was off the highway and sitting at a light for a few minutes, then it came down alittle but didn't drop much more. This was this past Saturday and it was in the 40's just before sunset.

i think the test for this would be the numbers on summer day:shrug:

yes it would but this is what we have at the moment because someone mentioned seeing very high IAT temps a few weeks ago.

I'll do this again in the summer too.

BrApple- That was some good info. & thanks for posting your findings. I have had my KKM with the original filter (it's been cleaned & re-oiled twice) for 6+ years & I had never noticed any problems. It's nice to see that, so far, your information supports this. Thanks again for your time & effort.

don't forget I have a pud heat shield on the car.

also you might want to read this

I know you may have already thought of this, but in my old celica, i had a cai, and i noticed that by the time the air reached the engine it was hot, so i wrapped it in the exhaust wrap, the one that keeps the heat out of your engine bay, well i figured that if it would insulate the exhaust headers then it can keep my air cool, so i did, and i got more horsepower and more mpg, you might want to try that instead of getting a new intake, or even heatshield, it will be more effective... and cheaper...

WRAP THAT RASCALL!!!

ok here are some screen shots of the data logging that I did with my SVT the other weekend. This is again a 2k SVT with a KKM, pud heat shield and lightly modified exhaust with a glasspak and magnaflows with stock piping.

the car was parked in a non-heated garage at the center of a condo, IAT started at 54 degrees, I believe the outside temp was in the 40's right around sunset.

the yellow curve is the air intake temp. the red is engine rpm and the faint pink line is the engine coolant temp. scaling is for IAT.

is there any way i can just buy the pipe for the nautlilus intake i just bought a new filter it connects to the factory air duct under the fender but i can move it down with the new pipe

Are there any cold air intakes which utilize plastic compounds for intake piping, rather than metal piping? The OEM style plastic boxes and thick black-rubber flex-hose's offer the best buffer against heat-soak, where as metal is one of the worst known materials for thermal isolation.

Even though PVC is not as attractive as a polished aluminum pipe, it will will be superior for maintaining a lower intake temp.

It is but in our case. That PVC pipe will have a hard time maintaining stress levels from our engine rocking back and fourth during acceleration when the pvc is hot.

It's been done and has failed:cool:

the k&n fipak comes w/ a platic intake tube, but its a short ram w/heatshield setup. not a true cai

Also... if you want to do a Home Depot intake, use ABS... not PVC. Black pipes looks better than white pipes... and ABS doesn't release chlorine into the intake like PVC would.

But.. a better solution would be to use silicone hoses. For the valve cover vents, IAC, & IAT, you just stick them in the side of the hose (all 4 of those already have barbed ends).

just a suggestion, i bought the kkm short then ordered a cai for a 2000 acura 3.2tl with only a little modification one offed a cai for my 98 all in all the power increase was very noticable. after the kkm i only have about $35 in the bottom section. will post pics soon
