just drove a g8

you'll have to step up to the GXP if you want manual, at least for 2009

did you even bother to read the whole thread? :help:

i thought the manual wasn't available yet, and won't be except for the GXP?

He'll have a long wait for one with a manual. And If spending that much it wouldn't be that car. Canadian dollar is pretty close to American FWIW. I think my buddy bought his 01 vette new close to that. Yea it was 7 years ago but geez. I could see 35k.

Every car-rag has stated in there 2009 new car previews the GXP will come with a manual trans as an option.

Would this not use the exact same manual trans as the 2010 Camaro? No good reason not to supply the market with a manual trans version when it is already in GM's parts bin.

yeah, it will be the same 6060 with a different tailhousing/shifter location.

$41K Canadian = ~$38,600K US

If I were going to drop $38K on a car I would bite the bullet and spend a few more Canadian dollars for this bad boy. It starts around $45K US...

"The A5 will be priced around $45,000, plus options, when it lands next year. If you absolutely have to have one by the end of the year, prepare to shell out well over $50,000 for an S5, which, frankly, is a bargain for such a high-level combination of speed, style, luxury, and sex appeal. Get your ass in line. Behind us." - Car and Driver

HOLD UP! EDIT THAT! Edmunds has a price starting at $39,900 for this car which is close to $41K Canadian and it's a manual with RWD...

This car is automotive porn...

:drool::drool: We had one of those in our car club's car show here at school a few weeks ago. I had never seen one before. As much as I LOVE the G8, that would be a tough decision for me. The A5 is absolutely pure sex.

It's not RWD, it's AWD...also, this car in the Canadian market isn't going to be $45k...sorry

My buddy has an S5...had the pleasure of cruising around in it at the Dream Cruise...

How do you know? Because it says it on the page that I posted? What if I don't know how to read? I'll take this as an insult sir. The rear wheels have to to move when it's AWD too, duh.

I guess that's another reason why I'm glad to be in the states.

It's a lot cheaper this side of the boarder.

Which "boarder"? Tony Hawk? Greg Brady? (with or without the Tiki necklace?)

Canadian pricing is far from simply taking the US pricing and multiplying by the current exchange rate. Both US and Canadian pricing are set seperately, and exchange rates are only a small part of the total picture.

I was referring to the fact that I said it was RWD instead of AWD and that I'm an idiot b/c it says on the edmunds page that I posted AWD. It was my weak attempt at being facetious.

It's ok, nobody's arguing that you're not an idiot :D

I simply chose your post to highlight the pricing comment, you weren't the only one to screw that one up :D

As it was already mentioned, US and Canadian prices are set independently so you can't compare using direct currency conversion. Which is why it became a much more common occurence to import cars from the US once the dollars were near par, despite the tactics the mfgs are using to prevent it.

FWIW, the A5 starts at $55k CAD, S5 $69k; the M3 I drove last week stickered at $79k.

Whatever manual trans they use I hope its not the one used in the GTO. That was one of the worst shifting transmisions I have ever used. I thought I wanted a G8 as a replacement for the GTO but bought a Solstice instead.

gto has a t-56 in it. it was actually a nice trans (has the corvette triple-double synchronizer setup) but it was handicapped by a shifter that used a crappy linkage setup.

the 6060 shouldn't have that problem as it has the ability to run a body mounted shifter, making the application process for different vehicles much easier.

I saw new M3's going for $69k US when they first came out... :blackeye:

Very true, last october my GF bought a 2008 TT S-Line in Los Angeles. She had me price one out up here on the internets and the loaded up model ran $68K at a dealership in Edmonton, Alberta. She bought it in LA for just over $48K with some extras the dealer installed for her.

basically for ANY canadian car, take the US price and add anywhere from 20-40% to the final price. Want a Corvette Z06? A $78K car? In Canada that will be about $92K (and that's with the new pricing alot of dealers advertise because our dollar was doing so well)
