So i need to get a dyno done on my 3L, i was referred to hitech motorsport in elk river. I emailed them and he said 500 bucks!!! I thought that was a ton of money compared to my friends maxima who got a dyno done for 150-200. Anybody know of a cheaper place that can do 3L's?

DB Performance in Rogers, which is pretty much off hwy 101. They are back behind Cabela's and Graco. They charge $150 and hour for tuning.

Depends how close they get it on the first go ;) I don't think it would take more than two hours but I could be wrong... I've been to DB and I like their facility. I've also heard a lot of mustang guys praise Hitech... If you're looking to save some money Tom (Warmonger) on the boards can do mail order tunes for 3L's using an XCal2 or I think he can even do the basic chip tune. Either way no dyno shop around here knows the contour like he does ;) I had him tune my car because I wanted the best.

How does that work? Doesn't even make sence to me. Would i have to pull the comp. chip out of my car?

No definitely not... The Xcal2 flashes a program to your ecu with the tune and stores your stock tune. It can have up to three different tunes as well as the stock tune at a time. It allows you to tweak little things like rev limiters, tire size, etc. I like the way mine works, you can also hook up a laptop to your ecu and monitor different sensors of all sorts of things. Also scans codes too. SCT Home Page

And the Xcal2 info is on this page XCal 2

If you have a stock 3L maybe you can buy the chip+Tune from Hightech without dyno time.

All of our cars were Very Similar...
What your paying for is not only their dyno time, but the chip it self.

Chip i believe was 180 + Dyno time.

so you get a chip and then they dyno the car then they program the chip?

All of our cars baselined almost the exact same. Lol, come over to my cube and talk to me, I was there after all. -26251

As others have said, half the cost is the chip they use to tune the car with. Purchasing a SCT XCAL online is $379 and that isn't even getting you a dyno run. When DB performance says they can tune your car on the dyno for $180 that is expecting you have something they can tune your car with which you don't. Even the S-AFC you have isn't what you want. That full 3L needs some major timing adjustments down low and the S-AFC doesn't have timing adjustment. You'll need a SCT chip or Diablosport chip.

Hey so what gains exactly do you get from a dyno on a 3L? All i know is that you would get better mpg, more HP/Torque, and the engine would run smoother. No more agressive shaking at freeway speeds.
Anybody know exactly how much HP/Torque i should gain from a dyno? I'm still debating whether or not it's worth it. If my car wouldnt be a whole lot faster after a dyno than what it is now, then i dont think i'm gonna do it right now.

Anbody know?

With what you have listed in your signature I'd guess at around 20whp with a good solid tune, probably even more torque. Someone else can step in and voice there opinion but it's probably worth it, unless you plan on getting other substantial upgrades in the near future.
