I have a 1999 SVT Contour (mods listed below) #633. Some might remember me from spring zing 2001 with the offset blue stripe. That has been removed for a long time. I then repainted the car with House of Kolor orion silver I'm doing a port matched 3L using the SVT upper and lower intake manifolds. I bought the 3L back in 2003 with the intentions to build it up for a turbo but that never happened. It stayed apart in my mom's basement until earlier this year. I blew the 2.5L about 2 years ago and just let the car sit in my garage until my buddy (dealz) started to get on me to either sell it or fix it. Well I wasn't about to sell it even though I wasn't doing anything with it so I decided to fix it. I have been working on porting and polishing the heads. Honestly I think I went overboard with the porting and polishing (I'll post pics later). I just kept finding more and more to do after doing the port matching. It seemed like it would never end! The only screw up I did was not oiling one head after soaking it in gas and cleaning it so it rusted and oxidized. I lapped the valve seats and lapped the other head that was ok. A guy at work (GM Powertrain) said he lap's every engine he takes apart so I figured why not. Anyway the engine pull is going surprisingly good. I have everything disconnected (I think) besides the mounts. I have some experience pulling and installing engines but not much. My buddy pulled his blown 427 out of his formula and put in a more built 427 in my garage that I helped with (I drove it and it was insane!). So far so good but I don't see where you hook up the chains on the passenger side of the engine. Do I need the ford service tools or can I hook up a chain to a bolt hole??? (http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/xx88/mike44201/IMG_1295.jpg?t=1281210267) I'll post more pics later but I have to get to a poker game. I hope to come home tonight and pull the engine (or tomorrow).

the pass side mount is located by the firewall. right next to ur coilpack. if it isnt there, then its been removed. u can use the power steering motor mount as well

they dont all come with that eyelet for some reason. my 2000 didnt and Sam (svttour) has said he has seen quite a few that didnt have it either. I found that wrapping the chain around motor mount itself works pretty well, and because of its shape there is no risk of it slipping off, even at extreme angles.

Yea as you can see from the pic I have no eyelet on the passenger side. Using the engine mount It seems like it would be offset and tilt side ways but I don't see anything else around there. Hopefully I'll have time to try it out later. Thanks guys.

Had a difficult time using the offest mount. I thought I didnt need to remove the fan and radiator but with the angle it was removed from I should have removed the fan. I didnt agree with the Ford manual but it was a good guideline. However the sequence seemed odd to me. But I work at GM and work with service so I understand how things work. Anyway the powertrain is out and I'm very happy.

Looks like you are having a great time .

The engine wire harness that you left in the car comes out very easy. Lift up the power steering fluid container and unbolt the harness there, 10mm ;) - Unbolt by the driver's side shock tower, 10mm. Harness should unclip and come out. Nice progress.

Good work so far, let me know if you need a hand.

Thanks Beans, probably would have went smoother with help from someone that has done this before but atleast I only broke the fan shroud a little. I'll let you know when I'm ready to install the new one. I still need to build it up.

Here is my parts list. It doesn't copy over very good so I uploaded it to Q Drive. Here is a link to the excel file http://qdrive.net/mike44201/file/157692/1ba5be3b5d8bbc8e168d59337210b0aa never used Q Drive before so let me know if it doesnt work.

That tool looks cool. Why are you replacing all the bearing caps? If you have not ordered the IAC gasket, it's like $2 on rockauto under the Fuel/air>throttle body (or something) category. Use your 2.5 valve covers and get the 2.5 valve cover gasket set. Since it's a hybrid, make sure to block the holes (I think drain-backs or for coolant) on either side of the block. Headers can be had from nautilus or ebay if you're lucky. Don't forget timing chain and whatnot while you're in there. And, pulse wheel orientation. I'm sure you've read up on a lot of this stuff. I am building my hybrid as well but I'm just leaving the lower end alone (yikes?).
