1999 v6 atx problem

Hey guys,
My moms friend is having problems with her v6 ATX contour. In the morning she will start it and put into R and it makes this TICK TICK TICK TICK TICK noise almost like a rod knock. Goes into N and nothing then, D same noise. I checked her fluid and it was a quart low so I put that in and it was fine until I just got a call and its doing it again. No CELs or anything.
Thoughts?

P and N are fine. D and R are not. Sounds like an engine/tranny mount.

What do you think the ticking is then?

Could be exhaust leak, fuel injector ticking, metal hitting something when put in D or R, or as you suspected, rod knock.

I guess ill have to check it over a little better today when she comes over. Im hoping its not the trans though.
