As you all know, I am selling my truck because 10 MPG + 75 Mile round trip to/from work = about $100/WEEK in fuel = MASSIVE FAIL.

I was going to get a 99-04 Mustang V6, but my credit would not allow such nonsense.

I discussed it with Tommy (ksContourkid), and he suggested something 4cyl/5spd. (Ford Escort)

I was talking to a guy at work and he's like "I have a 93 Escort GT I'll sell ya." So we talked a bit and I bought it with 132,XXX miles on it, new (20,000 miles old) engine and transmission, and most everything works.

I picked it up last night and drove it home. It has some issues, but for $700 I cannot complain too much.

Pictures will come after I sleep.

Good call. I bet that thing should get you in the high 30mpg range, and hopefully it will last you quite a while. I got sick of a 95 mile round trip after two weeks at my new job, so I just moved closer. I'm paying an extra $150/month in rent, but now I have my own place, two car garage, I'm saving about $250/month in gas, and I'm 10 minutes from work, which is close enough to go home at watch ATHF over lunch.

Good call, as that's what brought me to the here and now. Last summer when gas was $5/gal up here driving a big truck just back and forth to work was becoming a budget-killer issue. Enter my used Contour buy. On half the tank of gas of the truck I can drive a few more days longer than the truck could on it's bigger tank, resulting in a big savings. Now that gas has just hit $2/gal here, I'm just smilin' and enjoying the extra pocket coin. We kept the truck, and use it on the weekends for Home Depot runs and such....

nice pickup, however, I have heard some people talking about how the 1.8L GT motors in the Escort dont like cold climates, something about it having small oil passages.

However, this can be fixed if on a cold day you start it up and let it run for about 5 minutes before revving the motor up.

for $700 I would have bought it too, in fact I have been looking for a good stick shift escort for $700 (or less) to drive around as a daily driver.

More coming...

Dom: I said a ten-*second* car, not a ten-*minute* car.

Jesse: You could push this across the finish line, or tow it.

Dom: You couldn't even tow that across the finish line.

Brian: No Faith.

Dom: I have faith in you, but this isn't a junkyard. This is a garage

Wow, I love Fast and Furious quotes. I found it hilarious they talked about ten second cars when the cars in that movie could never run that fast even with modding.

Mine loved the cold.... Even after it had a turbo on it. Oh yeah, and they are FUN to mod. I to have been looking for a new one. A lady offered to sell me one for 100 bucks the other day, but she owed her bank 500 on it, so I turned it down, besides it had a bad head gasket and needed a new timing belt, springs, struts, and the front windshield had a HUGE crack across the middle

I miss my escort so much

Please bring that car to good condition again! The Escort GT is becoming a rare breed. I checked on eBay yesterday and only saw one - and it didn't even survive the F&F era of the early 2000s. :(
