I have a shot at 95pgt-t's exhaust, which is a 2.5" Trubenz. It is a 1999, so it will fit my car. How should it sound? I don't think it'll be too bad, but the one thing I'm worried about is rasp:shrug:

i ran 2.5" on my zetec for a few years before i installed the turbo. never once had a problem with lack of low end power. in fact, with nothing more than that exhaust, an intake, and 230K miles, i made 121WHP. Keep in mind though that i had an MTX. I think with an ATX you would be better off with 2.25"

But for 50 bucks, is the difference really that big? In all seriousness (I'm not being sarcastic), is the difference worth the probably 100-150 dollar difference between this exhaust and if I had to put one in myself?

EDIT: To you have your dyno sheet from that pull still? I'd like to take a peek at your torque curve. It seems like my GL has pretty good low-end grunt for a stock 4-cyl. I'm not sure if it would be too bad even with this

the whole exhaust only cost me $50 :laugh:

heres my dyno sheet. it even went really lean for some reason, so im sure there was more power possible.

Well that's pretty darned flat!

How do you think it should sound? I'm not so sure if it'll be too raspy for me; and I know that's a pretty big problem for the Zetec. I'll be leaving in the stock CC and res.

I've seen that vid like 15 times, and still can;t believe that there's no rasp. It's borderline V-6 in sound! Will i pick up a horse or two if I take out the res? I've heard it's a pretty big bottleneck.

You is t3h dumb. The resonator is only a bottleneck for the SVT, because it's inlet/outlet is 2", and the rest of the exhaust is 2.25". And think about it: the downpipe from your cat is 2". So it doesn't matter .

Whoops:laugh:

Thanks, douche:cool:

Good point, good point:cool:

Anyone else have an opinion?

you should do what I suggested, Harry knows a lot about exhausts, the long and short of it is, on an ATX zetec contour you shouldn't increase the diameter of the pipe, your ATX at WOT will shift the trans at 5500RPMs, if you went to a 2.5 inch exhaust you would hit your powerband above 4 grand, then shift and the car would be a dog again, it just wouldnt be very driveable every day, you would need to keep the car running at WOT to make it fun to drive. In thoery you will love having a stupidly loud exhaust with an entirely straight through design, but remember, your exhaust wont sound as good/like strykers, you have an ATX, most of the time its just going to drone at you, and after a while you will get tired. If you do what I suggested, your exhaust will get loud at WOT and have a nice grumble for daily driving, its why I loved it so much on my 99.

Here is a point of comparison for you, stryker posted about his full exhaust setup, on my pre98 I bought a cheap ass Fart can off of e-bay, thats it... have a listen;

I miss my pre98 :( I want another one.

Th exhaust set-up that is going on my car- 99 SVT from mid-pipe back with resonator. I'm contemplating cuting out the mufflers and replacing them with 2 lenghts of 2.5" pipe and 3" tips. I've heard Ian's Zetec ATX with the SVT exhaust and almost the same intake I plan on piecing together, and loved the sound; it's exactly what I wanted. And from what I've heard of yours (which DOES sound good, NO RASP:drool:), it's a bit more mellow. Plus, for a Zetec ATX, that car really screws.

Thanks for the advice:cool:

Oh, and 1 more thing. Since I have the skill to weld it all together, this exhaust will cost me about 60 bucks including the tips

The ATX shifts way after 5500 at WOT. Mine surpasses 6250, although I can't guarantee EXACTLY how high it does go. So we're talking almost an extra 1000rpms of use-able power here. Given such, seeing as the cat down-pipe is 2", I see no reason why you shouldn't expand the exhaust after that to improve sound. Going from a 2" downpipe to a 2.5" exhaust isn't THAT much different in terms of air flow compared to a 2" downpipe to a 2" exhaust. Yes, it is a bit different. However, the fluid properties will be nearly the same in the downpipe, which is all that really matters in terms of engine performance. So, I see no reason why it would be harmful to jump to a 2.5" exhaust from flex-pipe back. I feel it would improve the sound and make it deeper. I ran without a muffler (rotted off), and my exhaust was high-pitched. After the SVT cat-back, the exhaust growls due to the increase in pipe diameter. I am confident in this view on the matter.

Frankly, my thing is that I'm spending as little as I can on this. I have bigger fish to fry with this car:cool:

So, thanks to everyone for your advice, Ian's car has proven to me that the SVT exhaust works, and his theory makes alot of sense.
