What is the best way to paint coil springs? The only post I found related to this was here: http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/s...d=allposts&Main=410268&Search=true#Post410268 that was only referring to the struts.

Obviously it will need to be durable, so I'm thinking powder coating? The struts I'm not so worried about as I can just rattle can them if nothing else... I'm not sure how the struts would handle the heat of powder coating (400 degrees Fahrenheit according to Wikipedia)

I'm a powder coating newb

Edit:
Also found this thread, still didn't help much. http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=9061

I'll throw my 2 cents in..

With the spring, you won't need to worry about heat as much as stretchability. Powercoat would fit the bill, but if you want a cheaper alternative, maybe try latex paint for its durability to stretch. But I could be completely wrong and made a fool out of myself.

Yeah I was thinking Powder coat would be the ultimate answer for the Springs. The concern I had with heat was for doing the Struts (Expensive compressed gas struts hitting 400 degrees scares me ).

I was just searching the interweb when I found this page (for choppers) that says it can be done on Coil Springs and Struts both... http://www.gogocycles.com/powder-coat-paint.html

Here's a partial list of some of the stuff that can be powder coated:

Wheels and Rims
Vehicle Bumpers
Various pieces of trim
Engine Parts such as Valve Covers
Sway Bars
Struts
Coil Springs
Custom Chopper frames

You know I'm not too current on things but if you want protection from rust, etc., I've used "Fluid Film" with great success on everything; look for it on ebay or google.

It is a lanolin like substance from sheep's wool that is used to rustproof cargo containers on sea going ships, and underneath cars, and also good to preserve leather and is a decent hand cream!

Of course it just preserves, not paints, and must be renewed every couple years. But I'm kind of a rust nut, and it's the best thing I've seen.

I think the stuff that's on them is epoxy paint, like on stoves or other appliances.

On the struts/springs?

I'm having the springs Powder coated by blu_fuz and I'll be prepping the struts and spray painting them.

Oh and I'm not too worried about rust, more about looking nice as this is the fun car :)
