Opinions on a nice toy/DD?

I have come across a good deal from a customer. A '97 F350 XLT lariat crewcab/shortbed (hubba hubba), powerstroke w/ auto. LOW miles, and it's been babied by the elderly gent.

I'm probably going to sell the F150 after picking this truck up, and get a nice every other day type DD/toy.

I'd like to keep it below $35K.
Doesn't have to be new, but the newer the better.
I prefer 2 doors over 4, unless it's a wicked sweet vehicle.
Performance, refined lux-o type and uber nice styling.
I don't want to mod beyond the basics to get it to the point to where I would be happy with it.

I have a few inmind, but any input would be very helpful for me to think outside of my little box :ponder:

My in-laws just bought a Z4...don't know which engine, but I bet it's still a hoot!

Edit: a TT is very user friendly and AWD. Front wheel bias = great gas mileage on the highway - I'm averaging 31mpg since I bought mine. Plenty of reliable chips that bump the boost up 7psi (to 20-21 ish peak vs 15 sustaining at 15 vs 11) which ups the fun factor quite a bit.

needs more posting pics in pics & vids.

Chris, the idea of a SC300 with a swap has been very tempting ever since you posted pics and info about them. I really like them, but it'd be too much of a project. I'd have to build my own rather than buy someone else's project.

Derek, I'm sure you know my love for the TT. Any forums I should be looking at? With how much they've dropped in price, I am really looking hard at getting one this time. The new ones with V6's and a restyle just don't do it for me, but the older ones still have me drooling. A lightly mod'd coupe with some sweet wheels is something I would really like!

Dave, not a big fan of those really. I'd like a SRT8 Magnum or 300, but I just do not like the ineriors at all.
I almost did buy a G35 before my F150. I don't like the lack of a back seat in the 350Z, so the lux'd out G35 variant seemed pretty sweet. I'm just not feeling them all that much anymore

Randy, The NSX is sweet and I have toyed with the idea of getting one. Just not too practicle for me given the interior space. I also don't care much for heavily mod'd cars, but that is a cool Goat.

Austin, I'll have to actually look at the TL up close.
As far as chipping and putting a good exhaust setup on the F350, you've read my mind.

I am a BMW guy...so that's what you'll get from me. You can pick up an E46 M3 for less than that now. Especially b/c everyone's is unloading them for the new v8 one coming out. I also like the 335i...coupe is beautiful...but it'll cost more than 35k. Then there is also a 1 series coming out with the 335 engine...supposed to be pretty much an M car as far as suspension goes. I can't tell from pics what it'll look like but they expect new pricing to be around there....BMW also said they plan for it to be a track car for many people.
Although BMW's are not for everyone, yes they require maintenance unlike Japanese cars, but to me it's worth it. I also come from a BMW family...my dad has had them as long as I have been alive and they have always been good cars for him.

Mine? Yeah, I've been meaning to do that some time...
In-laws car? Need pics first!

Daymon - I like the vwvortex the best, though audiworld is pretty decent. audiworld is clique-y but there's good info on there. If you want to see what's out there for the TT check out ttstuff.com, APR tuning, ECS tuning, GIAC, and REVO Technic. Oh yeah, check out Hartmann wheels for the super sexy GERMAN wheels. ;)

Oh yeah...thought about the S2000? You can get an '04 (w/ the 2.2L) for around 25K or so. Kinda bland exterior, and simple interior. I really liked those, but couldn't justify a RWD convertible when we have ice that falls from the sky in the winter. :)

lots of these are great suggestions - but man you just cant beat an NSX for that special look of an exotic.

a couple more to think about:

OK - so the last one is a joke.
But have you considered something like the Mangusta? its uber rare and a sweeeeet ride. It can be serviced at any Ford dealer and has a folding hardtop.

Lotus is another sweet choice - but I bet your looking for a bit more comfort than an elise . . .

I know you said 2 rather than 4 doors - but have you considered a CTS-V?
