Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums General General Paid too much for trans replacement?

I just got the bill to replace the auto trans on my '96 SE for $3,400. This is for a replacement, not repair of the original. Is this way out of line for the Washington DC area? I have not paid for nor picked up the car yet. This was done at a local Aamco.
