Sounds like the nut below the plate is loose. You can try using an impact gun to remove it (I wouldn't suggest using it to reinstall though). Otherwise I used one of these ratchets:
Once you get the plate off, make sure and tighten the nut below it to ensure that you don't run into this same problem again
