EDIT: playing around with my 1W LEDs... now I see why these things need a heat sink! Oh, and my camera couldn't take a pic of 4 of them on... they're that bright!

It's kinda like how I asked before about the white face guages... you can't make the numbers themselves light up, so you light up around them. When the numbers are very small (like the Km/h part), the parts that are lit up combine and form a blob that makes the numbers unreadable, which means I can't use them here.
