Could be or it could be a bad headgasket (not a good thing).

Here is a cheap quick way to test the headgasket.

Fill antifreeze to the brim on recovery tank (leave cap off). Remove all spark plug wires. Remove all but one spark plug and have someone crank the engine. If the antifreeze bubbles over, there is leak from that portion of the engine (or cylinder). If not, go to the next cylinder, and then the next.... Note, it could be more than one area or more than one cylinder. Good luck.

The test is to "remove all but one spark plug and have someone crank the engine". Not just remove the wires. You remove the rest of the spark plugs so that there is no compression on those cylinders (therefore no bubbling). If it bubbles on that one cylinder, you know your gasket is leaking in that cylinder. If it doesn't, you put the next spark plug in and do the crank test again. Until you get the bubbling on that cylinder.

You just have someone crank, not start. I doubt you can start the engine without any spark plug wires on (and only one spark plug on).
