The guy who got the first ZXtuner header just posted pics of it. Looks nice and shiny. 56k beware. http://www.fastcougar.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=48&threadid=102815

Form the looks of it those 2 pipes that are part of the downpipe will not fit in between the oil pan and the subframe.....my 2.5" single downpipe really doesn't fit there all that good!

Some of those welds are kinda ugly, but I certainly wouldn't turn it down. I'd say they're worth the $350 or so that they're asking. That was the advance order price, I think they're $385 now?? Still, worth it for the HP gain.

I think they were speaking in terms of the Contour 2.0L not the Cougar.

He posted in a separate topic it fits and the car runs great. He's got a ZXtuner stage 2 cam and stock exhaust with VCT and says the car rev quick and pulls hard. He did have to grind something a little bit for clearance, but that's it.

I bought an edelbrock header for a 2001 focus and it doesn't fit my flange on my mystique (my cat has 4 bolts the focus has 3 and is a weird shape), I ran to 10 different muffler shops and nobody had a flange for a focus the only way to get one was to buy a factory cat because it's one piece since I didn't want to do that I just went to a machine shop and paid them to custom make a flange for the header so I could install it. The downpipe will have to be custom made because the focus one goes a different way. The header itself will bolt up to the block but all the piping and the flange has to be custom. Hope this helps.

This header was built for a Cougar not a Focus. It should fit with minor mods - if any. The only difference might be any EGR connectors, maaaaybe the angle of an O2 sensor.
I also contacted James on NECO who is in the process of building 50 sets of headers made specifically for the Cougar. I am under the impression that these are not the ZX2racing.com headers but rather a different custom setup for the Zetec Cougar. Word is he is planning to test fit to a Contour shortly. The prototype headers are currently installed on his Cougar and look quite nice.
In my last e-mail response from him, he indicated that he does not know for certain if the headers will fit a Contour in their current configuration. My guess is, since they are essentially the same car as the Contour I don't expect any more difficulty fitting them than the MSDS or Weapon-R headers that fit the V-6 Cougar/Contour. The MSDS fit fine, the Weapon-Rs apparently require some adjustment of the EGR connector (1" or so of bending).
I don't even own a Contour/Cougar Zetec... , but I do hope you guys get in on the fun!! Headers are cool!

someone refresh my memory
pre98's have EGR 98+ have VCT
I'm confusing myself but I was thinking that pre98 guys might have to mod a lil more than 98+ to make the header fit.

I'll let you guys figure it out. My point is that modding, if any, would be minimal. Adding an EGR tube should be a very easy task for a muffler shop.

The guy on the Neco forum said the car dyno'd at 136whp and 140wtq with header, 2.25 trubends dual exhaust, Zxtuner stage 2 intake cam and cam gear tuned on the dyno and CAI intake. VCT still installed. Sounded good to me.

That'd be about 165 at the crank according to his posts. Not shabby at all! Based on his existing mods, I'd say he picked up at least 20 crank hp. I don't recall if he's got a chip. If not his numbers will be even better.

Oh ok. From what I heard as long as its a zetec block it will fit. I jsut got the heades installed and there was no moddifying needed to make it fit the block I did how ever have to move one of the hoses forward which took 10seconds to do and the shop also put a bung in the header and after the cat so I could still use my o2 sensors.

Nope, I bought a magnaflow universal cat ane then cut the pipes on the cat to make it a bit shorter and so it would fit in the factory location instead of relocating it to under the car. I have pics of the header installed but it's kind of hard to see the cat, let me know if you still want the pics.

yea I wanna see...I'm pretty curious.
I guess if you have a header like the zxtuner one that comes in 2 different pieces you could add a cat after and then have a custom downpipe made.
I didn't know shops would mess with your cat.

If you have none, it's OK for them to install one. If you have one failing, they can replace it. Removing them is a big no-no.

I'm away for the weekdn put I will send u a pic as soon as I get back. My headers look like the escape headers (that funky deisign that comes up from the block) if you go to CTA Motorsports webpage and look under the foucs you will see the header its called the edelbrock shorty header.

oh yea a shorty header...I kinda would rather have one of those...would make it easier to add in a cat too.
but didn't you have to do some welding to the cat? I'm assuming it doesn't bolt on to the flange on the shorty?

Yes I had to modify the cat for 2 reason. 1) the focus flange is a triangle and has 3 bolts and my mystique flange was an oval with 4 bolts soI got a machine shop to make me a focus flange becasue I couldnm't find on. 2) the magnaflow cat was to long so I chopped the pipes on each end of the cat by 1inch and then I got it angled so it fit in the factory loacation which aloud me to keep the downstream o2 sensor in it's factory location(I didn't feel likw splicing and extending it). The exhasut shop will also have to put a bung in the header and inpipe just behind the cat so you can put your o2 sensors back in.
