Hmm I think it definitely makes sense to be in that position for cops in median clocking cars passing them (pointing same direction). But when a cop is shooting cars moving toward him it seems the radar will be travel off at an angle further away from the center of the road. I saw an audi with his detector very far to the passenger side of the car. I think he did it for that reason. I guess whatever works for each situation and individual is how it should be placed. I just compromise with smack dab in the middle of the windshield.

I've mounted mine between my rear-view mirror and my headliner. It has an unobstructed view out the front and back of the car, and sits JUST below the tint line of the windsheild, so laser detection isn't interfered with. Also not easily seen from outside the car. Hardwire it into the power in your overhead console for your moonroof, and theres no power cords. Golden.
