hi all
thanks for all the previous information on the Mystique LS Sport that i was thinking of buying.Today my Hyundai Accent finally pushed me over the edge(had to get a tow, firt time ever for any car the we have ever owned).
As i stated in my previous posts that i was unsure of this car due to some quirky badging and options.well tonight i visited the owners and got all the info on the car.It is indeed a Mystique LS sport with a zetec in it.i have the vin and ran it thru the vin decoder in the faq section.
it comes up as a Mystique LS 1998 with a zetec.
just in case i am decoding wrong ,here it is for someone to check:1MEFM663XWK651215(could someone run a carfax for me if possible, i am 99.9% sure that its clean but you never know).

the owners are getting a new honda civic se and we are going to do a courtesy deal thru the honda dealership.
i am getting the car for $3500can+ tax.Our DMV placed the book value(for tax purposes)at $7295 canadian so if i could not have done a courtesy deal i would have had to pay tax(15%) on the $7295 not the actual $3500 that i paid for it.
the car is very dark green with no rear spoiler and alloy wheels.very well optioned and only 110000kms. the main thing is i know how the car was driven and taken care of.the only thing that i could find wrong was the mystique grill has some small pcs of the chrome missing from the carwash ,otherwise its in very good condition.
my first additions are going to be a cd player and a set of hid(?) bulbs for the headlamps.

Also would it do the car good to switch to synthetic oil at this point in its life?

my only dissapointment was that it did not have the 2.5L v6 but i think i will get over that especially with gas is 99.9cents/litre here in nova scotia.
anyway i will post again when i take ownership next wednesday.might also post some pics
regards,jeff

Welcome aboard! I have a 98 Mystique LS that I custom ordered in Nov 97. I love tinkering with it and it's fun to drive.

You might check here for that Carfax report you asked about:

I thought all Mystique LS models had the V-6 engine standard (I know in '99 that was the case). Also, I have the original Mystique brochures from both 1998 and 1999, and neither one of them mentions anything about a "Sport" option for the Mystique.

Mystique did not have the sport option that I know of. They did have a spree option that was somewhat like the contour sport option

He is in Canada, which may have had different specs for the Mystique LS and Sport.

In the US, for year 2000, the Mytique 'Spree' became the 'Sport'. Proabably to save $1 in sharing badges with the Tour.
