Taurus left and Escape right. Obviously.

Escape pan isn't as deep. Comes with gasket and bolts.

Since the pan isn't as deep, can you still use the same dipstick?

He is comparing it to the Taurus pan which does not fit the CDW-27 platform.
The Taurus pan is a completely different design built to fit.... A Taurus.

The Escape uses the exact same pan design that any CDW-27 does. It just has been revised several times since "our" line dead.

So you're saying the dipstick fits?

This seems like a better protective bolt on than the DMD... Hmmmm.....

Light years better.

Running 6 qts of oil is better.

Checking your oil often is better.

Shall we throw in full 3 liter even...

No mods are necessary to make it fit. I kept the stock dipstick and just noted where 6 qts is...

People have said that you should upgrade the windage tray too, although the new pan does work with the stocker.

Realy? Two people that have done 3.0 conversions told me that it has to be slightly modified, weld in a hole and make another? Am I confusing with something else?

We're talking Escape pan, right? If so, yup. It bolted up to my 2.5 w/stock windage tray just fine- of course, when I saw the windage tray was updated, I changed it out, too (also a straight bolt-in). On the 3L, there should be no difference- especially if you do the windage tray, too.

I *think* I remember the posts you're referring to. IIRC, that was the YZxxxxxx oil pan. The one I have (and pictured above) is a more recent update (note the built-in gasket)- maybe one of the revisions was to make sure it fit all duratecs w/out modification.

Does anyone have a pic of the YZ oil pan for comparo?

Of course I could be just talking out of my arse as I am often wrong on these things....

Got it from Bill, too. He assured me that it was the latest revision after I asked about the YZxxxxx version.

Do you need a new dipstick and sleeve with this pan?

I'm confused because another thread the guy below said you do.

And in this thread, the guy says you don't.

You mean you don't know to order everything from Bill Jenkins yet? (20% or 25% below retail)

I have no patience to wait on the UPS. You don't have to pay shipping when you go to the Ford dealer too. But 25% is 25%. One day I'll wise up.

I have been realy confused on this for a while. So there is three pans? 5l8z,3m4z,yz.. Which one is for a 2001+ 3.0. I was told that on a 3.0 using manual trans that very minor modifications were needed. Can anyone straighten this out?

Not true.

3M4Z does not have the integral gasket.

The 5L8E has the integral gasket.

The 3M4Z kit is $75.
The 5L8E kit is over $100.

The only difference is the gasket.

NEITHER kit comes with the YL8Z pickup or windage tray!!!

Those must be purchased separately if needed.

All 01+ engines already have the YL8Z windage tray.
All 01+ Escape engines have the YL8Z pickup as well.

DAMN folks this is all OLD & very REHASHED information.

It's even posted on my website too...

Well there you go, mostly. That clears up a few things for me. Also explains why my pickup tube (98) had to be modded to fit my block (01) when the motor went in.

But, Pete and I still wonder about the dipstick and the dipstick tube. Same all across (my 98 works with the 01 windage and the 98 pan), or changed along the way and required with the new pan?

Maybe there should be a sticky added, just for the oil pan and pickup clarifying

The dipstick & tube for any regular Duratec engine is interchangeable.

It was revised once in 01 (or around there)

Now 6qts shows "full" on the dipstick.

I am using the revised dipstick from the 5/02 Taurus/Sable Engine I am running and using it with the 3M4Z pan and YL8Z pickup & windage tray.

Didn't you have to use the +'01 Escape style main bolts to use the YL8Z windage tray?

Yup, you have to use the 3L mains to work with the revised pickup tube and windage tray. . .

This info was confusing as hell to me, but Demon has been kind of enough to clairfy it for me a gazillion times,

To repeat:
New Escape Oil Pan +
New Pickup +
New tray +
New Main Studs +
New Dipstick and Sleeve.

That's all that needs to be done.

Now you can just do the new oil pan if you don't want to mess with the mains, but if you're getting your engine done, migh as well, right. . . .the part numbers are ALL listed above or in other posts. . .

OK, just compared my unoffical email reply "invoice" with the actual shipping invoice (from Bill).

In Bills email reply, he listed the 3M4Z number.

In the actual shipping invoice, it's the 58LE number

Cost was $117 shipped

It does have the integral gasket.

Sorry for the confusion.

This is all if your using a 2.5l and want to upgrade pans right? Not if you already have a 3.0,espcealy a 2001+, than you only need the pan and dipstick, correct? This is the 3.0l forum so some may get confuse..umm like me .

Yes you sort of get those for free with a 5/02 casting date engine.

To answer the question "straightly" (where have you folks been the last several years??? )

Yes you need the 01+ main studs to mount the YL8Z pickup & windage tray.

You can use any dipstick because they all have the same protruding length and base mounting point. Only the marks "on" the dipstick changed when comparing my 00 SVT to the 5/02 3L

Cutting off the support bracket is defiintely NOT the way to do it.

Neither is BENDING the bracket.

Foks DO NOT be cheap asses and do it the dangerous way (the support is there for a REASON) and just spend the $15 and get the new pickup.

The reason the support is on there is that during testing the pick up stressed. This allowed air to be picked up along with the oil. I cut mine off and Terry had a fit when I told him that. It was only temporary but still don't do it. Just do it right the first time.

ok, time to clear this up again....

There is no "2.5L pan", "3.0L pan", or "Escape pan".

There are the following 3 pan setups:
1) Unique pan for 3.0L Taurus only due to packaging differences.
2) Unique pans for Jaguars & Lincoln LS. Completely different so don't even ask if they'll fit.
3) Oil pan shared by everything else including Contour, Mystique, Cougar, Mondeo, Escape, Mazda6, and Mazda MPV. So some of these are 2.5L and some are 3.0L. Got it?

The Taurus pan will have part number on it that starts with F5DE or F7DE. That's all you need to know. It's not worth the trouble of trying to mod it to work. Use your original or buy an improved pan.

The shared pan goes like this.
F53E, F73E, YL8E pans. Would work on newer engines but do not have improvements. No major functional differences.

2S7E pan. Added ribs to front of pan.

3M4E pan (3M4Z-6675-BA service number) Same as 2S7E but has improved baffle inside the pan for better drainback of oil to pickup.

5L8E pan (5L8Z-6675-AA service number). Same as 3M4E but has oil pan gasket integrated into the pan rail.

All of the improved pans above would fit on older Contours, Cougars, etc. The oil pan is independant of the pickup screen & windage tray. You don't have to run a old/new level pickup & windage tray with a old/new level pan because the location of the pickup in the pan has not changed.

However, to run the newer windage tray, you need to use the newer pickup with the newer bolts/studs. This is because the newer tray has different mounting points for the pickup. Don't try and just use your old studs and move them around to a different location. The newer studs have a different head thickness so you would change the clearance of the pickup to the bottom of the pan. So to summarize, don't mix old pickup, tray, and bolts with new. Go all old or all new.

i have a 2005 Escpae pan on my 2.5L, and the dipstick tube and dipstick need to be changed to the newer ones. other than that it is a direct bolt on....the pick up is the same. i only upgraded b/c i hit a rock and it ripped off the back of my 2.5 pan.

Don't try and just use your old studs and move them around to a different location. The newer studs have a different head thickness so you would change the clearance of the pickup to the bottom of the pan. So to summarize, don't mix old pickup, tray, and bolts with new. Go all old or all new.

What are the esentially RWD pan differences?

might be another stupid post.

I understand all the differences between all the different pans. But is that to say that the stock oil pan on a 2000+ 3.0 is not as good as lets say the 5L8E? Would it be a better idea to change it out anyway whilst I have the engine outta the car?

Correct.

The 3M4Z pan or 5L8E pan are the best revision by far.

The only difference between them is the 5L8E pan has the integrated gasket. (and the kit is now $25 more expensive )

Noble cars. It's part of a track day package, which keeps the engine from being oil-starved. Also comes with mocal oil cooler and accusump system.

All 01+ engines come with the YL8Z windage tray.

ONLY the Escape/Tribute engines come with the YL8Z pickup tube. (& compatible oil pan)

The Taurus/Sable engine uses both a different pick up tube and different pan. (among other things)

Got it from Bill, too. He assured me that it was the latest revision after I asked about the YZxxxxx version.

Yes 3M4Z-6675-BA is a good pan, that has since been replaced by the 5L8Z-6675-AA. Both will work, but I think the 5L8Z now comes with the integral gasket, were the 3M4Z had the steel/rubber one.
