Met a guy who Didn't have a mustang and he had a Zx2. Cta Intake with zx2 extension, UDP crank and UDP Alternator, that's it. With sticky heavy 17" Mille1000 he bogged yet was getting 16.1 and 16.2's on his first time at the track. Is their weight making that big a diff or do the 2 pulleys help(the reason why I brought this up)

The crank UDP on my Tour was worth 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile. The rest of the difference is weight. Some, maybe one half of one tenth, will be the cold air extension.

stock for stock as I recall the ZX2 MTX is on Par with a V6 MTX tour. Slight bennifit to the tour. Their is alot less weight in the ZX2. I had one but it was ATX. Raced against my 4CYL MTX mystique it was bang on the same time. The weight of the ZX2 is only 2600lb's IIRC. Start modding the car on stock rims and I'm sure you will pull high and perhaps mid 15's. Do a search there have been some post perhaps in the archives about the ZX2 and the times they get. There was alos soe post about the souped up version that Ford sold in limited quantities. The name excapes me right now but it did start with an S. Came with a cold air intke and a few suspension goodies @ 150 hp. It represented a good bang for the buck. Was also sold in Yellow as one of the colours.

ZX-2 SR
It also has some nice computer control & suspension goodies that make the car quite coveted. SR parts in the Escort world are like SVT parts here - only more so because I believe the manufacturing run was shorter.

Only downsides of the ZX2 is of course looks, even a contour looks better. And the tranny is weak. TurboTom just finished his ZX2 turbo kit and he doesn't like the stock tranny, it's different than the mtx75 and overall weaker. Also an LSD cost almost twice as much as one for our MTX and even then is still weak. He said he was looking to make a tranny swap kit. But their main benefit is their lightness.

I like the looks of the ZX2. It's cute.

My biggest gripe with the ZX2 is how soft its suspension feels. The Contour feels much more stable and under control, especially around corners.

I forgot about that. Mine what the pits in the snow. You would almost beleive you were driving a rear whell drive the way the rear end would just pop out going around a corner. Fun if on purpose but otherwise.

That's a definate drawback. I don't like the soft springs either, but a nice set of S/R springs & Tokico struts would do the trick, I think. I already have a rear strut bar on it that has considerably reduced the body roll.
Firmer springs, perhaps a bit lower, would make for a really nice little commuter car.

Agreed, a stock ZX2 is begging for a suspension upgrade. I cant get over how narrow the tires are too. My stock size tires are WAAAY bigger than the ones on my Dads ZX2.

An S/R (if you can find it) and about $1500 will get you to SVT Contour territory in 1/4 mile times and in the curves.

It was I originally went hunting for when I bought the Tour 2 years back. I have a friend that had one, he tweeked the suspension, got some wider tires, and added cams & cam gears. Dams fun car.

My buddy has a S/R with some work into it. He pulled 160 something to the wheels and ran a 14.2!

that's about 193 crank HP in a car that's about 400 lbs. lighter than an SVT. Does sound like that's pushin' the numbers a bit. Did he add a 50 shot or sup'm?

nope but that'd have to be one hell of a driver and a super light Focus...218fwhp is possible for 13's and below but 160whp and runnin a 14.2 is just not adding up to me.

Yeah, you're right, it would have to be a very light car with just 160hp to get a 14.2

Its not all about peak numbers, I've seen high HPSupra's pull high 13's and I've seen low HP mustnags pull high 12's. TQ, area under the curve, driver, track, and tires all play a role in 1/4 mile times. Although a 14.2 is a little lower than I would guess by half a second.
