Hello: Mysterious problem. My check engine light came on, yet all of my emission equipment and sensors are in good order? I recently changed my air system to a Neutron high performance Cold Air that provides more air flow than it had with the stock SVT system with a K&N drop in. Any ideas or things I might have missed? My car has 73000 miles on it.

There is a list of codes in the FAQ on the main page.
All 1996 and newer cars use the OBD-II system. The light indicates that the PCM has found a problem and is throwing a code. You can get them scanned at Autozone or if you have an OBD-II scanner which plugs into the port under the dash, to the left of the clutch pedal.

Okay Ray, the joke's on me. Nevertheless your advice about AutoZone paid off, at least now I know what's wrong. I just returned from AutoZone, the tester said my Cat is going out. I just had the car DEQ tested and new tags in December '03, so I knew everything on the engine itself was okay. I'll hold off until the fall of '05 and have the Cat replaced.

Maybe somebody knows for sure but I think Ford has to replace cats when they are bad under 80,000. They should do it for free...I think!

Thanks anm8, I'll look into that - free is a good price! My SVT only has 73,000 on it.

What was the actual code? the cat *may not* be going bad...
could be a downstream O2 sensor, etc..
Do you feel any power loss at the upper end of the RPM's? Any rotten egg smell, while driving? Drastic drop in gas mileage?
