Now's the time to put in a Quaife/Torsen and any other fun stuff you've been wanting to upgrade. That is, of course, if such things are in your budget.

I take it that this is with regards to the issues on your SVT. If you are paying, there is another option: a used transmission from a Mercury Cougar. It has many of the updated parts already in it, which will save you time, and it might leave you money left over for the Torsen. Hey, it will be cheaper than a rebuild........

How much do you think it will cost to pick up a low mile couger tranny? I have a tranny wit no spider, and a hole in the case. How much would you guess to rebuild/update this? Of course you don't know what it looks like, but if you could guess. Thanks guys

I picked up a tranny out of a 00 cougar with 28K on it for 530 total. I already had the upgraded shift forks and the shift tower was updated as well. The best part was the tower accepted the cable ends that were already on the car, so I think it is superior to the tower listed in the permanent post. If you are going to take apart the tranny make sure you have proper sealent to put it back together ( ie - 23 dollar loctite, not sure the part number).

Will a used transmission from a Cougar work with a pre-98 Countour? My car has 90,000 miles on it... I just bought it... Everything seems fine for the time being, and I'm sure if I drive like a granny it will be for a long time...

...Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately, haha ), I don't drive like a granny, so...might not be too much time before I have to do something like that...either upgrading to a Mondeo ST200 transmission, or rebuilding this transmission, or...<insert other option here>.

Thanks, just wondering.

Yes as long as it is from the same engine type.

If you get a late 00 or newer you get a revised tranny.
