I've been doing enough front-end suspension work over the past year that I want to get the right tools for the job to make things go faster and less prone to error. Something along the lines of the ones shown in the Ford tech manual, but preferably cheaper. Any tips on where to get the following:

* hub puller
* ball-joint separator (not the large fork)
* tie-rod seperator
* CV boot clamp pliers
* slide hammer... is this really that useful?

I've seen kits that include all the pullers/separators used for Honda front ends. Anything like that for Ford? I've also seen slide hammer kits that appear to have a few of these items. Anybody find them worthwhile? TIA!

I usually rent that kind of stuff from Autozone, and they work great (hub puller, tie rod separator)
I don't think that Ford-specific tools are much better and I'm sure they are much more expensive.
Your picture shows exactly the tools my local AZ has.

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Try "toolsource.com", Lisle makes the two cv boot pliers you'll need,the "Earless" #30500 and "Ear" type #30800. OTC makes an attachment for their slap hammer to help remove the inner cv joint out of the transaxle. I have that set-up but need to get an extension for the slap hammer, so you are not working on top of the rotor/hub assy. when you are trying to pull the joint.

All I needed was spring compressors and ball joint seperator, both loaned from autozone.
