"I was taking a hard right-hand turn, I felt a sudden power loss, the oil light flicked on, and the engine knocked under throttle and at idle."

Yep, last time it was a slow painful death; this time it was a textbook Duratec blamo! I was only 2 miles from home, so I limped it back. Oil light flickered on and off when the motor dropped to idle and it had a little trouble idling at times.

OK, so what's the plan here? I obviously have to check and replace all of the lower bearings, at which time I upgrade to the oil pan Demon preaches about. What other parts are now suspect and should be inspected? What (if any) parts are going to have to be machined, assuming I don't replace anything that doesn't absolutely need to be replaced? The block is January 2001 date of manufacture, fresh from Ford via Huntingdon Beach.

Keep in mind this is all going to be in the driveway - my car is going to be covered in tarp for a while once I start. And it's going to take time because I don't have a lot of that either, at least until next month. Nor do I have the money for a project like this.

Not sure if by lower bearings you also mean the rod bearings. Those are first to go as they arent being lubricated and they overheat.

Ah, that's rough.

But hey you had like 40k on that engine didn't you? That's not too shabby at all.

Those damn bearings. Always up to no good.

How are you going to just replace the bearings when they most likely chewed the crank? Sounds like time for a new short block to me.

It's an oil starvation issue at high RPM making right hand turns. Avoid this and you will avoid the issue. But if you like to run your car then upgrade the oil pan.

Man that just sucks!

You'll know what you have when you open the pan. Probably a spun rod bearing though.

What oil pan does one upgrade to? And call me old school noob knowledge, but does running 6 quarts and the DMD help?

Running 6 qts helps a little.

The DMD does not help at all.

Lack of oil in the pan at high rpm due to slow 2.5L head drainage.
Therefore under sustained cornering there is a much greater risk of pooling the remaining oil on one side or another.
