The Kansas City Region Sports Car Club of America is running an
Autocross Driving School at Lot L of the Truman Sports Complex (Southeast lot of the Arrowhead/Royals lots) on
Sunday May 9th. NOTE: this is Mothers?? Day but it??s the only time we could get.
Learn How To Drive! This school is a golden (and cheap!) opportunity to learn about autocrossing, but more also to learn how you and your car behave at the car??s limits in a fun, safe, educational environment. To quote the SCCA, these events are ??driving skill contests that emphasize the driver's ability and the car's handling characteristics. This is accomplished by driving a course that is designated by traffic cones on a low hazard location, such as a parking lot or inactive airstrip. While speeds are no greater than those normally encountered in legal highway driving, the combination of concentration and car feedback creates an adrenaline pumping experience. It is like being in a movie chase scene, only you are holding onto the steering wheel instead of a box of popcorn!? For more information on exactly what autocross is, check here:
http://www.sfrscca.com/solo2/faq/auto.htm#102Limited Entries Means More Seat Time For YouThis one-day school is open to the
first 50 people who register and pre-pay the entry fee of $25, and who meet the following qualifications:
-- Drivers must provide a valid driver??s license or learner??s permit on the day of the event
-- Drivers may not have autocrossed more than one year nor ever attended high-performance driving schools before.
-- NOTE: Drivers under the age of 18 will need a parent or guardian to sign a Minor Waiver Release, even to be on the property during the event.
Driver SafetyHelmets are required for all car occupants. A limited number of loaners will be available but if you have one of your own, and it is rated Snell M90 or better, please bring it with you.
Intoxicants are not allowed on event grounds at any time during the event. All cars on premises (that's the entire site and its surroundings) must be driven in a safe and responsible manner. Anyone who violates either rule will be asked to leave and will not get a refund.
Vehicle SafetyAny car that passes safety inspection can run. Motorcycles and high-center-of-gravity vehicles (examples: Jeep Wranglers and Suzuki Samurai??s) are not allowed. Your car will need to pass a safety inspection. Among the critical issues are tires in good shape (no cracks or bulges, no cords showing where tread should be), a firm brake pedal, a functioning throttle-return mechanism, a battery that is securely mounted, and seat belts that aren??t frayed beyond service life.
Be On TimeOn-site check-in will begin at 8:30 am on Sunday May 9th. ??Ground School? covering vehicle dynamics and autocrossing tactics will begin at 9:15. First car will be on course at 10:00 am. Plan on being there most of the day and come prepared for the weather. The event runs rain or shine, barring lighting or damaging wind. Wet pavement provides an even better driver education so don??t let any rain scare you.
All the instructors are multi-year autocross veterans and will be assigned to students based roughly on what kind of car they drive.
