I did my own searching, but really couldn't find an answer. The guy at the dealership parts counter refused to sell me a water pump for my 2000 SVT because he said my 2000 SVT water pump had no plastic parts in it. Did he just lie? I didn't think about asking to see one while I was there, and now I feel a little too silly to go back there w/o knowing for sure. Thanks,

Umm take it out and hit him in the head with it. Why are you getting a Ford part when the original is defective? Why not get the Napa w/ metal prop?

So the question in do all the Csvts have the plastic water pumps or just certain years?
I thought Ford addressed this problem in the later years i.e. 2000+ ?
I guess I'll have to change mine.

Ford did address the problem with a more durable plastic impeller, which based on feedback on this site fails much less frequently than the older style.
Sure, it still fails, its a mass produced mechanical part. However, the rate of failure seems to be significantly reduced.

I can't believe he lied.
Thanks, I'll get one, probably from Napa, and replace it when I flush the system.

why would he refuse to sell you a part? I would have said, I don't care, I'd still like to order the part.

My 99 has the new white plastic impeller in it. 70k miles & counting without a hint of any bad news.... I'll be changing the coolant & thermostat for spring tune-up season so I'll pull it out & take a very close look then.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

He was scarey looking.
Just kidding. He didn't want to sell it to me because he thought SVTs never had plastic in their water pumps.
I'm glad he/we didn't know; I'd prefer to buy it from Napa, now.

Why all the hostility? The parts guy probably thought it had a metal impellar, since most waterpumps do. The plastic used in the '99 and later models is fine, I have over 146,000 miles on mine, and I don't intend to replace it unless it goes out before the rest of the car dies.

'99 Mystique LS, totally original (including the original water pump and the premium stereo)! Bought new in December 1998 for $21,000.

You don't treat customers that way. Refusing to sell the WP because you think it has a metal impeller stock? You have a discussion then just say "Yes sir" & order the pump. Obviously, metal or not the customer needed/wanted a pump. Do business.

Do above first, then do some research or ask the techs that were gettin' their hands dirty on them thangs back when. Then you'll know. Don't demean your customers by TELLING them NO! You serve them, then show them your intent was to save them money if you're right.

Agreed. I have a white impeller pump in my 99 (I believe, it's supposed to be anyway) and have had no hint of a problem.

I'm just so glad that the fine folks at this board knew that plastic played a role in the building process of my Ford water pump, since the parts counterman at the Ford dealership didn't know what was going on behind his counter.

A friendly chat with the manager of the parts department should ensure smooth service in the future, especially when he learns that you bought the part elsewhere. And that counterman will have a nice new orifice too. Dumbass
Scott.

The part # for NAPA is 55-4091
It is not the metal impellor, ti is the white plastic one discussed above.
